"You won't be there to enjoy your HoF induction" is punishment enough. On the other hand, they imposed that penalty on Santo, for no sin greater than desperately wanting to get in.

I also, as a fairly new Catholic, exchanged opinions with our Parish Priest. I gave an opinion, and he exchanged it with the speed and vigor of a Nolan Ryan fastball. Of course, as a 2nd grader, I was the theological superior to our Vice President, so perhaps the Vatican was a bit gentler.

Jon Stewart MASSIVELY over-estimates himself, and his audience doubles that error, because he’s pithy. Pith isn’t intelligence. Wit isn’t insight. I doubt his capacity for reflection, but his viewers need to seriously reconsider who they listen to. Start somewhere without “comedy” in the name.

There are the grand and ancient constitutional principles at stake, but the concrete practical reason you put things like levying taxes and major economic policy decisions in the legislature is even when they get it wrong (and they do!) it doesn't change day to day based on one man's erratic whims.

Jon Hamm is going to die 9 different times in the second season of Landman.

There are few institutions more quietly essential to the function of modern life than the FDIC. They *regularly* swoop in, and silently clean up mistakes while making average working people whole.

They came of age in an economic crisis caused by their parents, struggled to put down roots because of their parents housing policies, couldn’t advance when their parents wouldn’t retire, and now have had economic war declared upon them. Rage? They should be a mob in the streets.

This is unconscionable. We have to impose additional liability on vaccine manufacturers, but if it's ag, we must be free from accountability.

My wife will be leading a revolution by sundown.

It'll be interesting to see the denotation on wikipedia of the first "we just decided to have one" recession.

Confirmed. Nyooms are indeed back.

Ryan Poles: I previously hired a succession of idiots.

I think a lot of modern stability is premised on my tribe no longer attacking your tribe, even though we’re both members. But we have to be vigilant against the person who pushes tribes to violence, because it’s easily done. Moreso when systems are being destroyed, decaying that stability.

What if we had a plan where only liberal married women were allowed to vote!

The good part of this picture is Haim looking on like they're witnessing a justified execution.

As long as the US rights holder maintains the Sky coverage ESPN has made available, I don’t care who owns the rights. I’d strongly prefer F1TV stay available as well, because multi-viewer is the best free product on earth, but that isn’t for everybody.

Heaven. Beer. Go Hawks!

This is true, and caused in large part by the prevailing powers prioritizing what they wanted to be true (peace, avoiding a direct by limited conflict) over what was *actually* true (a madman testing limits). We never get to dictate our own reality, but we always get to choose it.

If anyone needs a little hit of TikTok methadone, I am happy to confidently explain something that is obviously untrue

There is a lot to be said about the TikTok situation, but I think this is the most illustrative: The people who are the most vocal that “capitalism only cares about money, not people” aren’t the least bit curious why a business is voluntarily closing rather than selling for tens of billions.

Between 9 and 930 am, on a beautiful Friday in January, the Supreme Court sent an entire generation into a tizzy, and the outgoing President declared the Constitution amended (five years ago). We could slow things down just a little.

This is the modern version of that weirdo on MTV True Life who was a little too familiar with his Mazda.

An unusual number of people are eyeing the Court right now. They will *probably* rule on the emergency petition before Sunday, but they are under no obligation. They could simply let it all happen.

Algorithms are speech, as this week’s events clarify. That is precisely why TikTok will be open for business in 10 days, because SCOTUS is going to do anything it reasonably can to avoid saying so.

Why bookstores are dead, a rant: My oldest is participating in a “battle of the books” literary contest. It’s great, but the books are in-demand at his school library, so we’ve been purchasing some of them. He wanted go to Barnes and Noble and buy them in-person. I thought it would be fun. Wrong.

Tell me you have no children or don’t have a job that requires actual work in the morning without telling me you don’t have children or a a job that requires actual work in the morning.

Four years ago today, she was making the same face, but she was the one climbing a wall.
