House Democrats need to bring articles of impeachment against Kristi Noem, while Senate Democrats need to bring that chamber to a fucking halt.

The cruelty in today's politics feels horribly corrosive. Bringing up that hard-working immigrant families — undocumented, yes, but not violent criminals — are being ripped apart based on immigration status doesn't bring compassion or even pause, but gleeful cheers.

Trump has signaled an end date for FEMA. The landscape of disaster safety in the U.S. is about to get far more uneven, Zoë Schlanger writes:

Remember when Colbert roasted W at the 2006 correspondents‘ dinner, quipping that “reality has a well-known liberal bias”? Twenty years later (almost), and the NPS is now required to crowdsource “information” based on personal feelings because the historical facts are deemed too unpleasant. Cool. 🗃️

New from me: I wrote about the soon to be 88-year-old Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton saying she’s running for a 19th term. It speaks to both the gerontocracy problem among Democrats and, unfortunately for DC residents, “how little value is placed in the seat she holds.”

Trump and his cronies want farm workers afraid. They know when workers fear federal agents, they're less likely to report wage theft or bad conditions. We're fighting hard against the Trump Admin's destructive, xenophobic campaign. Donate today! ufw.org/fightback #WeFeedYou

A startling number of ChatGPT uses are developing intense, reality-bending AI delusions. The impacts on their real lives are often disastrous

In any other time, the media would correctly treat this continuing Hegseth dumpster fire as the biggest scandal in a decade.

On top of the cuts to Medicaid and the ACA, this bill proposes $500 BILLION in Medicare cuts. Republicans don't care who they hurt as long as they get their tax cuts. Beyond egregious! youtu.be/WKKZjLwk3sc?...

This was just posted by @tbretc.bsky.social on another platform. The Chicago Sun-Times obviously gets ChatGPT to write a ‘summer reads’ feature almost entirely made up of real authors but completely fake books. What are we coming to?

one question i have, what is the evidence of a commitment to "race-based hiring" other than this tendentious claim? bsky.app/profile/mist...

Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” guts Medicaid and aid programs to extend tax breaks, yet analysts say it could still balloon the debt by trillions. Critics call it a reverse Robin Hood in disguise. Slashing care for millions to fund cuts for the wealthy. #MomSky finance.yahoo.com/news/white-h...

If this doesn’t infuriate you, check your pulse.

This is getting fewer headlines than it should. After coming to power promising to help working people, the president is revealing his real priorities by actively making it easier for banks to rip people off.

We're told the FDA is now making plans to end most of its routine food safety inspections That oversight work would be effectively outsourced to state and local authorities, under this plan www.cbsnews.com/news/fda-foo...

It is time for Democrats to go on the attack, and take away tax-exempt status for every church that unabashedly campaigned for Trump. Take off the gloves, start to destroy the opposing institutions that fund the fascist movement.

(Bloomberg) - The US economy is set to lose billions of dollars in revenue in 2025 from a pullback in foreign tourism and boycotts of American products, adding to a growing list of headwinds keeping recession risk elevated. @bloomberg.com www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pulled in a massive fundraising haul amid progressive calls for her to launch a 2028 primary challenge against Sen. Chuck Schumer

“You don't have to beat people over the head with the fact that Donald Trump is incompetent and erratic and largely brings chaos to every situation he's in” YES YOU DO

North Carolinians, check to see if your vote for Riggs was thrown out. You have 2 weeks to correct it!

Maybe the conservatives in my replies will believe me now.

Have you said thank you once?

“On Feb. 21, 2019, Young, then 49, was at home in her apartment, getting undressed and preparing for bed, when Chicago police burst into her home with guns drawn. They were acting on a tip from an informant, but the cops were at the wrong house.”

Hopefully Trump doesn’t send the DOJ after me again for saying that we should take the fight directly to Republicans.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is being decimated right now. Mass layoffs happening across agencies (NIH, FDA, CDC etc). Some employees found out by security badge being denied. Others got email. Line outside Health Resources and Services Administration this AM shared with me:

Excellent work by new NYT headline writer Werner Herzog

UPDATE: Elon Musk tweeted he'll award $1 million at a weekend event to 2 people who show they voted in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race. Now the state Justice Department says it “intends to take legal action today to seek a court order to stop this from happening.” www.propublica.org/article/wisc...

Elon Musk Amazed At How Much Cheaper Bribing Voters Is In Midwest

We need to be aware of the companies—like Costco in retail, Chase in banking and Perkins Coie in law—that are fighting back or ignoring the bullying executive orders coming from 47. As an aside, the WSJ political reporting has been much clearer than either NYT or WaPo, as this headline suggests.

The idea that race is a social & historical construct has a long history. It was a central plank of the post WWII US consensus for obvious reasons given what pseudo-scientific racism had wrought. One of the central planks of the US right in the post WWII era was that race is a biologically reality.

Policymakers and technologists alike are stuck in a “solutionism” trap—but particularly with AI, we need to focus on intervention, not “solutions.” New essay by moi: www.techpolicy.press/we-need-an-i...

I am genuinely struggling to process the images of ICE Nazi-Barbie Kristi Noem standing in front of a cage of barely clothed men with shaved heads. These send shudders down my spine. What I can't understand is: how are these viewed by Trump supporters? Especially Jewish Trump supporters?

People using Grok to get actual knowledge is like going fishing in a puddle on the sidewalk. Aside from being unethical it’s so inaccurate. In the heyday of google you could actually find out information this way. But there is knowledge loss happening if people think they are learning through AI.

I’d like to ask every single New Yorker who’s remotely left of center to get actively involved in your local Democratic Party chapter with the goal of driving Schumer, Gillibrand, Hochul, Adams, Cuomo and all the other dead wood into retirement.

This aged well

The Democrat who just flipped a very Trumpy seat in Pennsylvania’s Senate made opposition to Elon Musk front and center in his campaign. (lancasteronline.com/news/politic...)

The whole point is not just the state disappearing whoever they want, it's you being in the habit of accepting the state choosing whom to disappear, without question. It's submission to the state. Same as with Gitmo after 9/11. The state's judgment must not be questioned.
