Panorama Toh is one of Japan's earliest RPGs, plays nothing like what you might expect of a "JRPG". Something rarely mentioned about it is it's inspired by a 1926 Japanese novel by Edogawa Ranpo about a dude stealing a fortune to create a hedonistic island full of surreal scenes. Quite fascinating.

It's nice how Digimon Story: Time Stranger went beyond the usual fanbase and many previews are like "I barely know anything about Digimon but this looks cool!" Digimon often gets dismissed as "Pokémon clones", but they have v. solid games that do fun things with monster raising & less hand-holding.

Yo, Path of Abyss looks juicy for dungeon-crawling sickos! It's an indie Japanese DRPG, heavily inspired by Wizardry, but with an interesting real-time combat that mix a Grandia-like action timer with comboing skills. Cool presentation & ideas! Also, cheap! store.steampowered.com/app/1768650/...

I’m glad so many people are enjoying Apothecary Diaries, and it’s generating more interest in dynastic China and stories about female physicians. There was a time when anime was the nearest thing to Chinese cultures getting any rep in popular entertainment. Now, we've got some amazing Cdrama. 1/

US propaganda machine playing all the classics - from exiled leader living in the US to "preemptive strikes" & imminent weapons of mass destruction... I hope they do the Fallout vaults next.

one thing worth mentioning as next fest grows more compulsory for upcoming games and fierce in competition is steam charges $100 to list your game. which was never good but is now completely fucked when the new expectation is you provide an entirely free, polished demo with said fee

Lots of uncertainty around Nexus Mods being sold, but it's always good practice to backup your favorite mods, especially the more obscure stuff. Some niche old games like Wizardry 8 and Wizards & Warriors have like one dude hosting most mods & patches in a personal website not updated since 2008.

this is the most dystopian article I've ever read. wow. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/13/t...

XKCD had a great strip on this that everyone in the retro space should take to heart.

It's sad how Taiwanese & Chinese people are constantly talking about how influential these games are - not only in their current games, but also in their TV shows, literature & comics. But this gets dismissed by people who are oblivious to Taiwanese & Chinese games, TV shows, literature & comics...

Had to make a quick mock up

Us ancients must understand that there's curious people online who weren't even born when OFF was released, much less Earthbound. I fear this lack of accessibility for younglings in our current landscape of dying games media, ragebait YouTube & older, jaded gamers... Don't be the new boomers.

Began, Tokyo summer has.

No, you took a bullet to kill Vietnamese people. Jesus fucking Christ how long will Americans attack America by literally adopting a "WE USED TO BE GREAT ATTITUDE"? It's YOUR DICTATOR'S SLOGAN, THINK A LITTLE.

Reminder that if you like games like Arx Fatalis, Peripeteia, Deus Ex, E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy, Hexcraft: Harlequin Fair, Precursors, Cruelty Squad & Psycho Patrol R, then it's mandatory to play Brigand: Oaxaca and leave a review.

It's hilarious how US pundits & newspapers chose this week to talk shit about Brazil and preach we should follow the American model of "Freedom of Speech" & unregulated Big Techs...

Gunpla broke me... I just built this cool ass Korean Geobukseon, but my brain is like "too easy, too quick to build, too big, requires glue, does not contain Char".

these are our brothers and we should be building a better world together

pro-Palestine demonstration in front of the GQuuuuuux billboard may be one of the most Gundam things to ever happen

Reading a Playboy magazine (for the articles!) from 1983 and our boy Kevin here is pioneering the PC master race thing lol You'd never guess he's talking about Telengard.
