I live in the borders between. Total nerd & crackpot. Musician (electric harp, synth, etc.) interested in too many things: food, drink, nature, astronomy, history, languages, anthro-archaeo-paleontologies, movies (SFF-horror-comedy-arthouse), books, etc.!

My op-ed in the @latimes.com today: "Monstrifying narratives have been undermining the possibility of a more inclusive body politic for millennia. But there’s an antidote to us-them messages of hate, fear and exclusion that claim that only a tiny minority of people are truly human." 1/2 🗃 #politics

Until Congress overturns Clinton’s vile Telecommunications Act of 1996, we will not see any improvement. Media must be regulated again, monopolies must be broken up. Until then, the billionaires’ death grip on the media propaganda machines will remain in place.

While I added the clown face (because he deserves it), the “typo” (yeah, maybe…) is right there on the NPR website.

Ithaca, NY - standing by!

Due to a shelter-in-place order and ongoing safety concerns following a shooting that targeted two elected officials, the No Kings protest in Northeast Minneapolis has been canceled. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the communities impacted by this horrifying violence.

So on brand for me that I crossed continents to Asia for the first time in my life for the sole purpose of seeing the memorial to Tombili (“Chubby”) the Cat in Kadıköy. What made it even better was that one of his live successors joined me for the photo op & was quite vocal in demanding cuddles.

Some of you are remarkably judgy about an innocent man being set upon by rabid babies.

While I can understand the moral argument of simply not wanting an antisemite as mayor, I’m not totally clear on how people who — wrongly, in my opinion — believe Zohran is antisemitic think he is going to harm Jewish New Yorkers.

Unfortunately, the funding rescission bill passed in the House today. It’s with the Senate now. Let your senators know that it’s worth maintaining public media for only $1.60 per person per year.

Good morning from Istanbul, where every cafe is technically a cat cafe.

“The Life of Chuck leaves no room for nuance or interpretation, just take your dose of bland inspiration and move on.” Our take:

🚨BREAKING: 300+ NIH employees call out the harm of censorship & politicized science in scathing email to Bhattacharya, demanding an end to political interference, a lift on funding freezes, & rehiring of fired staff whose work saves lives. This is historic - insiders are blowing the whistle. 🧵(1/5)

I know there’s a blasted usb 3 cord in this blasted house someplace. Deuced if I know where. All work must halt without it! Serves me right for being the me that I am, I guess.

This seems like an important detail. 🧐
