Revisiting @finleyfreibert.bsky.social and 🔥 “Phrases that centralize the straight male reception once again imagine the anime niche market is a straight male market, and in doing so, argue that a release unaccepted by that market is doomed to failure.” iopn.library.illinois.edu/journals/jam...

Out now! MONSTRUM 7.2, “Queer/ing Horror,” guest-ed: @Daynarama.bsky.social. The 9 video essays in this issue think about what queer reuse of queerness looks like through a horror lens, and are also acts of queer re-telling and reviewing practices of horror. www.monstrum-society.ca/monstrum-v7-...

the inaugural university of pittsburgh's queer horror conference is officially off to a stellar start: sapphic fungus-from-the-body eating, rotting corpses and monstrous wives, confucian ethics and mental breakdowns, and so much more just in the first hour!

Our roundtable with Peter Alilunas, @drjonessoc.bsky.social, @noisybits.bsky.social and moi is just out as part of @pornstudiesjournal.bsky.social 10th year anniversary. 50 freebies here:

Archiving will be some of the most important work that we can do collectively over the next several years.

If you cannot call it what it is when all in a week: a government removes every mention of a group of people, destroys information about them en masse, bans their discussion in schools, restricts their ability to travel and starts seizing and refusing their official identification, when will you?

I'm tired of the framing of trans suicides as an entirely internal struggle detached from the realities of a deeply hostile culture hell-bent on denying us care, dignity, and autonomy. Every trans suicide is a social murder, because you cannot ignore a society actively trying to eradicate us.

Under each document we access in archives, there is a long, invisible, (un)intentional trail of fragmentation of information. Recognizing these pivots in the path of documents can help us better contextualize why we find what we find.

ELAINE MAY comes out in one month! But is already available to ship from @illinoispress.bsky.social! The promo code F24UIP gets you 30% off. The perfect holiday gift for all the ISHTAR haters in your life 😈 www.press.uillinois.edu/books/?id=p0...

And we're live! We're excited to announce our return to social media! Make sure to give us a follow for more information and updates on all things TV Scholarly Interest Group and SCMS! #SCMSTV #TVSIG #televisionstudies #scms

The Virtual Symposium is coming up in a couple of days, which is probably why I’m getting a lot of SCMS related questions…if you have questions, come chat with the more seasoned board members during board office hours!

Absolutely HILARIOUS on every count. Five stars, no notes, would read again.

Thanks to all who are reading, 'liking', and reposting this 🧵 for #WorldAIDSDay. I have a short bibliography, prepared for the 30th anniversary of the identification of AIDS in 2011: www.academia.edu/4606342. A lot of scholarship has appeared since, but sometimes it helps just to review the basics.

Faculty at UNT College of Ed are told they won't "receive travel funds to present research at conferences that deal with race, color, ethnicity, gender identity, or sexual orientation." I see people on here saying it's anticipatory compliance as the law doesn't address research or teaching per se.

THIS IS A CALL TO ACTION. Censorship affects all of us, and if Project 2025 gets its way, the entire trans publishing industry is at a significant risk of criminalization. In this article, I lay out the problem and the stakes, and suggest a broad action plan with dozens of potential response ✊
