Half a century ago, journalism began to move beyond the "news from nowhere" perspective and recognize that journalists have perspectives—and sometimes they are part of the story. That is what made this morning's "The Daily," an interview with a profoundly un-selfaware Azeem Ghorayshi, so jarring.

“That ‘big beautiful bill’ authorizes Trump to sell off 40 percent of all federal land,” if that is the precise figure, ought to be a message that we hear in the discourse beyond Bluesky. No one voted for this and a lot of politicians are about to vote for it…

"Every accusation is a confession" is such a cliche at this point that it's hard to know what to do with it. Sometimes, as with the DOJ "weaponization" group, the transition from falsely accusing others of doing the thing, to actually doing the thing yourself, is so quick one can blink and miss it.

Sorry but I think I want to talk about your lame parade and the huge “No Kings” turn-out for a couple more days.

@nytimes.com — how about some coverage of the controversial question of whether yesterday’s No Kings protests were actually the largest single-day protest in U.S. history, or merely since 1970? Was it 4 million or 6 million? Both-sides it, teach the controversy, etc., perfect news analysis story.

Regarding the plan to redshirt the boys (Richard Reeves et al): It is...not great for the middle and high school girls who are more than 12 months younger than many of their male classmates. If the point is really kindergarten readiness, then why not redshirt *everyone* + provide universal pre-K?

I don’t want to post a picture and get anyone in trouble but one National Guardsman guarding the federal building definitely is flashing a peace sign at protesters as we pass.

California national guard troops and marines deployed to LA to help restore order have told friends and family members they are deeply unhappy about the assignment and worry their only meaningful role will be as pawns in a political battle they don't want to join. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Somehow, elite news organizations—which actually care about free speech—were credulous enough to believe and amplify, over and over, for decades, the people who said "free speech" a lot, and transparently meant "I demand a political playing field more tilted toward my team"

Important and depressing story here by the absolutely terrific Maureen Tkacik (you may have also read her work w/byline Mo or Moe) setting this plane crash in the context of whistleblowers at Boeing and their specific worries about this set of planes. Obviously, cause of crash TBD, but read Tkacik.

Or if, at any point in his last 2 years, Joe Biden had ordered the TX National Guard into Houston over Greg Abbott's vociferous objection, under a law requiring him to go "through the governor"? Articles would have been drawn up the same day.

Everyone I knew who covered disinformation got laid off, their bosses got bullied into firing them, or they changed their beats from actual Nazi harassment campaigns. It cannot be stressed the damage the paid-for Substack “free speech” guys did in the service of fascism and against real free speech.

What they aren’t showing on Fox News

What an overwhelmingly popular administration we have in Washington! Obviously the best move for Democrats is to cower and try to make concessions to and compromises with with this incredibly popular movement.
