reorganizing books. count: 487 and more nonfiction than I thought I had! #πŸ“šπŸ’™

My daughter opened "Kids Like Us" by Hilary Reyl on Saturday, May 17 at 4:38pm. 😲 #πŸ“šπŸ’™

favorite response so far this semester to a journal assignment asking students what advice they'd have for my future students: "She knows way more than you think and enjoys and listens to what you have to say. If you get her really going, you might have to tell her to take a breath." ... fair πŸ™ˆ

Recommendation from Frankie at youtu.be/LK8NMhTi6OY?... Funny and thoughtful; reads so true to Slack, too... #πŸ“šπŸ’™

trying a new way of marking favorite lines; washi tape dots folded over the edges of pages. centered the first one but then realized I should leave the larger side of the dot on the page I'm actually marking or I'll just confuse it with the page on the opposite side of the sheet... #annotation #πŸ“šπŸ’™

My 11-year-old, from the back of the van, requested that we listen to If Books Could Kill. (My parenting skills are above reproach.) A while later, when I told him I was driving slowly in the rain to avoid the little frogs on the road, I said, (1/2)

student who just passed me in the hall: "that's where I had that class with that weird teacher" me to myself: πŸ₯² we're really changing lives here. #academia #highered

Stephanie's Books on YT, v. paraphrased: "Classics are out of my comfort zone; I'm going to try them to see what I might be missing. Starting with Of Mice and Men and I love it. Me, a lit prof: *nods happily* Stephanie's Books: Next is "The Old Man and the Sea"-- Me: NOOOOO #booksky #literature

Just finished last night: 4.25⭐ First half felt like I was reading David Copperfield... and "Pippa"? and Christmas in the ending? Am I imagining Dickens here and there? Loved Tartt's writing style but could use a trim here and there, esp. at the end. Still a good read! #booksky #πŸ“šπŸ’™

Today's the sixth day behind water; at least two more before the water recedes enough that we can get to the end of our road and back out into the world. Trying to get work done in the meantime!

I'm in the middle of an all-weekend grading catch-up spree and my daughter brought me a huge bowl of candy because "you could use a sugar crash." So I know I'm not supposed to have a favorite kid but

THREE students today told me they'd never heard the phrase "shooting the breeze." One said he was going to steal it, so I'm rolling with it and becoming a trendsetter.

haha

I've been recommending Robin Hobb's Ship of Magic to my husband because I know he'd love it almost as much I did, but he didn't want to borrow my Kindle. So the paperback arrived today and the 900pg. TOME he hefted out of the package... I had no idea! I flew through it and raced to the next one! πŸ’™πŸ“š

Mike spotted this before the rest of us. 🫑 Publications from 2025 are shared more on Bluesky than on X/Twitter.

Came to see my daughter's band performance, stayed to hide and read in the dark, quiet auditorium.

Currently reading:

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I know. Black and white, too, because I figured I might as well.

I'm sure winning the lottery feels pretty good, but it's nothing compared to getting a new library card for Libby IMMEDIATELY before being stuck at home behind a flooded road.

me: I've been working all day and haven't looked in a mirror all weekend but I just need to pick something up at Barnes and Noble... surely I won't run into someone I know if I'm quick about it the sign on the door when I get there: NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC THAT WE ARE FILMING

TIL, in the most gruesome, close-range manner, that squirrels eat birds.
