Hygrocybe coccinea (scarlet waxcap). The most common of the red hygrocybe species but a good find nonetheless. Differentiated from H. punicea but its smooth stem and smaller average size. It is a sign of high quality grassland in the UK. #fungi #fungifriends #waxcaps #mycology #nature

Gliophorus psittacinus (Parrot waxcap). A common and slimy waxcap. Colour is variable, young fruiting bodies are deep green turning yellow, orange or pink with age. The top of stem keeps a greenish tint however. #fungi #fungifriends #nature #mycology

Hygrocybe ceracea (Butter waxcap). It feels like I find these in every decent churchyard and unimproved field. Distinguished from similar waxcaps by the pale gills that are broadly attached to the stem. Often grow in large groups. #waxcaps #fungi #fungifriends #mycology #nature #cymru

Hygrocybe intermedia (fibrous waxcap). An unusual species in the UK but more common in Wales. Easily identifiable by its fibrous cap and fibrous stem. Often grows in large groups. #hygrocybe #waxcap #fungi #fungifriends #mycology #nature #cymru

Cuphophyllus pratensis (meadow waxcap). A common species but one I always love to see. 2024 seems to have been a good year for them in my area. #Cuphophyllus #waxcap #fungi #fungifriends #mycology #Cymru #nature

Hygrocybe cantharellus (Goblet waxcap). Not a species I am particularly familiar with, however, the finely squamulose cap with the gill colour led me to this identification. Found in a churchyard. #hygrocybe #waxcap #fungi #fungifriends #mycology #cymru

Hygrocybe conica (blackening waxcap). A common waxcap found in lawns and grassland. One of the more hardy waxcap species. Easily recognised by the darkening of the flesh with age or damage. #waxcap #fungi #fungifriends #mycology #nature

Hygrocybe citrinovirens (Citrine waxcap) a beautiful lemon and lime coloured waxcap. Unfortunately my phone camera does not do justice to how vibrant these fungi are. They are considered vulnerable in the UK and are a fairly unusual find. #hygrocybe #fungi #waxcap #nature #fungifriends #cymru

Porpolomopsis calyptriformis (pink/ballerina waxcap). An occasional but distinctive waxcap found in unimproved grassland. Easily identified by its pink and pointed cap with a white stem. #waxcaps #fungi #Porpolomopsis #fungifriends #nature #cymru

Hygrocybe punicea (crismon waxcap) I found in a surprisingly diverse local churchyard. It can be distinguished from similar waxcaps by having both a smooth cap and a fibrillose stem. #hygrocybepunicea #waxcaps #fungi #nature #mycology #cymru
