A new interview from my 2025 series with BULL LIT dropped today. This one is with Edgar winning author of HOLY CITY, Henry Wise @mrbullbull.bsky.social

Happy birthday to Thomas Pynchon. I either can't stand his books, or I love them. I enjoy the 2nd half of his career much more. Like VINELAND on...88 years old, and he has a new book coming out in Oct..

Since the new Pope is from Chicago, here's his St. Card.

In rereading VINELAND, I'm seeing parallels in the book written during the time of Regan to the world we are living in now. It's rather creepy. Like Pynchon was some crazed literary Nostradamus. Here are a few passages:

I NEVER want to know the real lyrics to Manfred Mann's cover of "Blinded By The Light." I'm perfectly content with forever thinking it's: "blinded by the Light, revved up like a douche..."

Used bookstore haul just now. Pynchon's VINELAND, I haven't read VINELAND in 20 years, but I'm going to reread it bc PT Anderson's new film coming in Sept, ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER is based on it Also, scored McGuane's NINETY-TWO IN THE SHADE, which I don't own but adore. love McGuane's writing

When listening to a Roy Orbison song from the 50s or 60s, like IN DREAMS, you can't listen to it once, I replay that shit like 8 times before I'm ready to move on to the next song.

I met Eli Wallach in a coffee shop in NYC in the 90s. I thanked him for THE GOOD, THE BAD, and THE UGLY, my favorite film. He was super nice and signed a napkin for me. After I thanked him again, he said, "But, kid, I was the Ugly," he gave me a pat on the arm, smiled, and left.

My face whenever I walk in a room, and people are saying: "journey," "toxic," "manifest," "good vibes only," "the universe, "salt life," "Eckhart Tolle," "mantra," "ashram," "venti," "karma," "guru."

New writing means a mostly new playlist of tunes. First addition, this entire damn album because it fucking rules. I'll make the rest up as I go.

🤘🎃

The trailer for the Zach Cregger's new horror film, WEAPONS, starring Josh Brolin and Julia Garner, looks incredible. I want to see it in the theater I loved Creeger's other film, BARBARIAN. This one looks good, too. I'm a fan of Josh Brolin, an underrated actor, IMO. youtu.be/wDQf8Mp-vA0?...

I can't believe Teeter has Fluffernutter. No one in Charlotte ever has it. Most places down south don't have it. I haven't had a Fluffernutter in like 5 years. Gonna f one up tonight Most southerners are too busy putting ranch on pizza and Duke's mayo on everything else, to enjoy a Flufffernutter.

I was asked about the interview series w @mrbullbull.bsky.social It's far from over, still 8 months of them to go! I took a little break for a month bc life Henry Wise is up next when Bull drops it. I'm waiting back on two sets of questions & have 4 new sets shipping out tomorrow & Thursday.

Pedro has always been a huge supporter of LBGTQ. He uses his star power for good. Also, fuck JK Rowling, and the 50 billion castles MAX paid her for the series.

Happy Birthday to one of the Kings of music, Willie Nelson. I LOVE Willie Nelson. I'm happy I saw him live once in Memphis at the Beale Street Music Festival in 2001. It was one of the highlights of my concert going life. "There are more old drunks than there are old doctors.” ― Willie Nelson

Thomas McGuane. That's the post.

HAPPY INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORE DAY. I have many favorite indie bookstores all over the country, but my favorite is Square Books in Oxford, MS. Without indie bookstores, readers & writers alike would be in the dark. Support your fav indie bookstores. Even if they're far away, order from them.

"We strictly do 80s Joel, sir."

Happy Birthday to the singular, Jack Nicholson. Hands down one of my favorite actors of all time.

I'm really excited about this one. I love most everything Joe puts out.

People are always saying "makes popcorn" when a hot button issue comes up and they're waiting for the madness to unfold in the comments section. I'm here to say, scoops bowl of ice cream, or pops open a beer, or grills a medium rare steak, or makes a fat bowl of mac n cheese.

I'm at work making time n a half until 2. Happy Easter

I haven't read any of Jonathan Ames' Doll novels. I picked up "A Man Named Doll,"the first book in the series. I'm looking forward to digging in. Loved other books I've read by Jonathan. @jonathanames.bsky.social

Butchered beef, lamb,& pork, mostly beef & lamb, for 8 hrs nonstop. My coat has never been more bloody. My boots, never more covered in bone & grease. I've been doing this for years, & I'm soaked, must be bc of the holiday I can barely lift my fucking arms to type this. Vicodin,Vicodin, take me away

Finished Jonathan Evison's latest novel, THE HEART OF WINTER, yet again, the mofo blows my mind. What a wonderful story, a completely unexpected story to boot. No one is doing what he's doing Johnathan will be a part of the Bull Interview Series. I can send him some questions next week. Pretty neat

Excellent essay on the Coens film BLOOD SIMPLE by @wmboyle4.bsky.social "Julian Marty, played by Dan Hedaya in one of the sweatiest and most distressing performances I’ve ever seen. He has an ulcer he somehow passes along to the audience." I love Dan Hedaya, an underrated actor. Love BLOOD SIMPLE

A favorite of mine, the great Harry Crews.

PT Anderson's first film, HARD EIGHT, is a masterpiece. Rewatching it yet again, I love it. It's definitely a comfort movie.

issue # 3 of my monthly column, MOANS from the CONDIMENT FRIDGE, is out now. About growing up with a parent who suffered war time PTSD. It's not a psychological profile. It's about what it does to a person in their day-to-day life. Photo is dad in the early 50s mrbullbull.com/newbull/moan...

Recommended I check out Robert Stone. I never read him before but didn't want to dive right into a novel bc I have stuff I'm reading, but decided to check out his short story collection, BEAR AND HIS DAUGHTER, so I could read a story here & there. MAN, this dude could put down a fucking line, shit!!
