And that caps off the week at the Open Source Summit in Denver. Submit your patches.

We launched our @thenewstack.io podcast about AI and AI agents today with a live stream on YouTube from the Open Source Summit in Denver. Thanks to Matt White, the executive director of the PyTorch Foundation for being my first guest! The full, unedited video is here:

What’s next for open source AI? @fredericl.bsky.social is chatting LIVE with Matt White of the @LinuxFoundation.org and @PyTorch.org Foundation TODAY about open models, ecosystems, and the future of collaborative AI. Don't miss out ➡️ www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zb5T...

I'm doing a thing tomorrow.

The world of Linux is constantly evolving, with new distributions emerging and existing ones refining their approach. These eight are a snapshot of the incredible diversity available.

I’ll say it again: It was a huge mistake for Congress to abolish itself.

Andy, you’re not supposed to say this stuff. The party line is that it will free workers from boring grunt work and make everyone more productive. www.nbcnews.com/business/bus...

This is the environment Trump and his sycophants have created. It’ll only get worse from here.

The neighborhood is getting ready for tomorrow

No shit. Now stop working with them.

Google Cloud is taking a massive outage right now, globally. status.cloud.google.com Not to be outdone, so is CloudFlare. www.cloudflarestatus.com #hugops

Check out my thoughts on Apple Containers! thenewstack.io/what-you-nee...

Got 3,000 unexpected steps in today when United changed our gate from A12 at SFO to F17 only 20 minutes before boarding.

Good morning from the Databricks conference, where the press rows are in the back, have Ethernet cables without dongles and no power. Only a three-hour keynote.

It’s Sam Altman’s job to hype up AI. blog.samaltman.com/the-gentle-s...

Of course, Moran’s post was 100% factual. Stephen Miller is a world class hater who gets his spiritual nourishment from eating his hate. That’s objectively true. Shame on ABC.

If IBM has really cracked quantum error correction, then that's a very, very, very big deal. Jay Gambetta told me that to him, it's "an engineering rather than a science challenge now.” That's still a very, very hard engineering, but they've shown they can pull it off.

i’m so excited this is out there in the world now!!! 🥹🥹 #swiftlang #containers github.com/apple/container github.com/apple/containerization

iOS 26 pro tip: Settings - Accessibility - Display & Text size - Reduce Transparency. Some sanity restored.

The Safari back button now also has a forward button. Courage.

Did anyone really anticipate Apple *and* our constitutional Republic to collapse on the same day??

Installed iOS 26. Worst iOS update yet. Nothing here feels necessary. Effects for the sake of effects. It’s a visual nightmare of translucent noise that only detracts from the core user experience.

We've reached the Vision OS part of the keynote. Time to close YouTube and get some real work done.

This could've been a press release. #wwdc

So far, these iOS updates seem to come down to more visual noise.

Did Apple get that 3D photo thing from the Fire Phone?

White House: "Violent mobs have attacked ICE officers and Federal Law Enforcement Officers." LAPD: "Today, demonstrations across the City of Los Angeles remained peaceful."

It has a star on it. Why not? www.wsfa.com/2025/06/06/t...

It doesn't matter if you ask OpenAI, Anthropic and everyone else who is building LLMs. They won't fully acknowledge what their tools are doing to students and their learning. The 1st generation of students who cheated their way through at least a few years of college is graduating now. Best of luck.

When you went to the Iowa Writers Workshop but ended up in journalism

Merz really picked the wrong day to go to Washington.

It's a shame it's already Saturday tomorrow. This week was just about to get interesting.

Good Christ. Trump seemed to think the chancellor of Germany considered the end of WWII a sad day somehow. Merz had to explain, no, America liberated us from the Nazis, dipshit. That was a good thing, you absolute fucking moron. I paraphrase only slightly.

good thing tomorrow is friday

How many months of edits did this have to go through? Virtually all of these models are completely outdated at this point. www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

Got a demo of Opera Neon today. Should get access tomorrow. Didn’t see a point in writing anything until I’ve tried it myself. Too many of these tools are very brittle still. press.opera.com/2025/05/28/o...

If they had stayed quiet about this, nobody would've remembered this was ever meant to be a thing.

I don’t know what model Google is using for Gemini in Chrome, but so far, for two out of three requests to summarize the pages I was looking at, it hallucinated names and facts. Not a good start, especially given that hallucinations haven’t been a real issue for me with the 2.5 Gemini models.

Imagine if you had to go to a US consulate to get that F-1 or J-1 visa. And you’d have to bring a bunch of paperwork. Then the US would know — because that’s how it already works! Galaxy brain stuff.

Friday's EU tariff announcement lasted nearly the whole weekend, or 18% of a Scaramucci.

It's too easy to create deepfakes with Google Flow. I don't know what kind of safety research they did, but it wasn't enough.
