Thoughts and prayers with the whole Reform "Doge" thing - which has aged, overnight, like a bucket of tripe and pickled herring in a festival portaloo.

Journalism is increasingly out of touch with public opinion. According to YouGov 66% of the public support a closer relationship with Europe and (53%) are in favour of undoing #Brexit altogether. Remember when newspapers cared about the will of the people? www.newstatesman.com/politics/med...

Did they even say β€œThank you?” 🀑 #OligarchEra

So then Elon goes "Kill the Bill!" and Trump goes "Elon has TDS!" so Elon goes "I'm the reason Trump won!" so Trump goes "we waste billions on Elon!" so Elon goes "Epstein!" and a corpulent flunkie goes "Deport Elon!" and Elon goes "Impeach!" And THAT'S why women are too emotional to be President.

Friday's NY Post cover doesn't disappoint:

Trump threatens to cut government funds that go to Elon Musk. Then Musk threatens to withhold the SpaceX capsule that transports stuff to the International Space Station for NASA. 🍿

finally a worthy Alien vs. Predator installment

Urm, what about the Nazi style salutes? Have a line ffs

Q: Would you consider more sanctions on Russia? TRUMP: When I see the moment where it's not gonna stop, we'll be very tough, and it could be on both countries Q: Is there a deadline? TRUMP: It's in my brain

Good god 😳😱

Widespread use of pesticides & fertilisers, light & chemical pollution, habitat loss, industrial agriculture - all contributors to astonishing insect decline. Many are deaths of proximity: insects are sensitive creatures, & any nearby source of pollution can kill. So do your gardening with care

Reform are up to no good at Kent County Council. By passing democratic processes, cancelling committee meetings, unelected officials trying to access data they shouldn't have access to, threatening staff, people with no connection to Kent and not elected to the council announcing decisions. 1/2

UK right-wingers showing an increasing interest in anti-abortion rhetoric as US money starts to flood in - very interesting report from @petergeoghegan.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/democrac...

Jesus Christ, how much more fucking stupid can they get??

Excellent article, which compares speeches of EU leaders and Starmer. The former talk warmly about shared values, mutual benefits, working β€œwith” each other. Starmer focuses on what the UK got β€œfrom” the EU. Encapsulates different mindsets in a nutshell. EU seeks win-win. UK still zero sum.

Very much enjoyed Robert Jenrick filming himself telling people they should pay for using the tube.

I can't take the credit, but I have just seen the suggestion that "Nigel Always CHickens Out" or NACHO is a good acronym...

That would be awful. Don’t share this.

men are fucking assholes & should not be in charge of anything.

@avasantina.bsky.social makes a crucial point. It will cost the taxpayer Β£3.5bn to lift around 1 million kids out of poverty. But will save us around Β£14bn in measures to effectively keep these kids alive due to their poor outcomes from living in poverty. Shocking.

Maximus, UK arm of a US contractor, that tests whether some people should receive disability benefits reported 23% hike in pre-tax profits, from Β£23.6m to Β£29.1m. It has Β£800m govt contracts. US CEO got $10.2m paypacket. Public services increasingly privatised. We pay more, get less in return.
