June 15, 1875: Herman Smith-Johannsen was born in Horten, Norway. Known as "Jackrabbit", he came to Canada in 1929 and is credited with blazing ski trails in Canada. From December 1986 to January 1987, he was the oldest person in the world. He died on Jan. 5, 1987 at the age of 111.
