Next year I’m not spending the whole month before the solstice doing the before and after surgery thing. The universe owes me June, and some of May.

Saw 28 Years Later today. I never thought I’d say this, but I should have seen the Wes Anderson thing instead.

What ever happens to that one facility in Iran, nobody is sneaking up on anybody at this point.

Just finished the rest of Charlie Wilson’s War. (Started last night. I’m old or whatever.) Great movie. If it wasn’t an inspiration for the Big Short, Adam McKay is lying.

It’s weird that I never saw Charlie Wilson’s War until last night. It’s like when I finally saw Zodiac. Thought maybe I was wrong about how great it was. I kind of want to be the Phillip Seymour Hoffman character when I grow up. Reminds me of Brad Pitt’s character in The Big Short.

Commonplace bird

The first amendment. We need to not let the people he’s yelling at or the people who sent them get away with calling this “violence”, or “rioting”. No, I’m not sure who “we” are or how we do that, but still.

There are always quotes. There is always video.

If I was going to “sneak” 6,000 active duty troops and associated hardware into the capitol for a coup, this is how I’d do it.

Exactly this.

You ever feel like you can’t tell anything from anything else and kind of wish you could, two that are easy to get ahold of are Coltrane and Shorter. After a little while you’ll never not be able to pick them out in a blindfold test again. #jazz #vinyl

Vivek Ramaswamy bowing out of DOGE early is really something. Wonder if he saw all this coming.

“sooner or later, when everything's said and done, all of it will wind up in the trash. If someday somebody takes up that trash once again and from it fabricates a few new sheets of paper,

Am I supposed to look on the bright side that half of my groceries didn’t come home with me from Whole Foods? The bright side: They didn’t charge me, either. That’s what I get for bagging my own stuff, apparently.

Monthly reminder: Many people have a book in them, but it takes a special kind of freak to leave the Land of Laziness, cross the Plains of Procrastination and Insecurity Mountain, find the Blade of No One Made You Do This, and use it to cut your chest open and yank that book out.

You know how when you call tech support, and they have you do all the stuff you’ve already tried, or knew wouldn’t work, and none of it works? Dating has always been like that.

Week-off Friday got here too fast. #sonnyrollins #jazz #vinyl #nowspinning

Understanding you don’t know something isn’t the same as knowing it, but that’s different from ignorance.

Watching my first Blu-Ray. Rocky. I know. I was busy. Anyway, what do I do with my DVDs now?

Wow, AI. It actually got worse when you “showed your work”? Seems like the regular pace-calculator websites are safe for now. #running

I want a covid booster.

i keep seeing people say that LLMs are good at search. NO. WRONG. You have just forgotten how good search used to be. Google broke it's own flagship product, and so you are accepting a demented chatbot's half baked gishgallop because we no longer have functional web search.

One of the reasons I vote for democrats is that Secretary Noem doesn't know what habeas corpus is.

If the republican budget goes through, I hope it at least means electoral oblivion for them next year. It would be good to be able to count on a rational response like that.

Good thread.

I would have totally stopped the world and melted with someone. I would have seen the difference. It would have been getting better all the time.

The Biden thing wasn’t a cover-up. it was denial, and just plain inertia. It’s the same with the injustices of the Trump administration. The silence of so many isn’t tacit approval, it is disbelief, and just plain, powerful, inertia. Inertia is underrated. Just my take. Good morning.

The stuff I find online about the show “Your Friends and Neighbors” never seems to mention the movie, and I think that’s weird.

USAID would have probably been great at that.
