Fun Factor, which reviews gaming magazines from the 90's/00's has become one of my new favorite podcasts/youtube shows. Highly recommend the Youtube feed which has scans of the original magazine pages as they discuss them. One comment on this episode re: Jumping Flash 2

It's FunFactor Fuesday! This episode, Ty introduced me to a magazine I had NO idea existed, but it's packed with a lot of my favourite EGM writers. Plus, Jumping Flash love. This is a good one.

XENOGEARS (1998)

GOOOOOOOOD FUNFACTOR MORNING!! You might think Ty would have been immediately into the new magazine "Intelligent Gamer" when he saw it on the shelf in 1996, but NO:

so we're flipping through the july '96 issue of intelligent gamer on @funfactorpod.com and, uh, let's just say trip hawkins tripped over his own concept controller

CORRECT 🇨🇦

Pleased to see Eiyuden Chronicle runs MUCH better on Switch 2. It’s still not perfect—lots of pop in on the world map, not 4K—but it’s a locked 30fps and load times are basically instant now. Vastly improved.

Neither 90s game-mag writers nor their audience had the language for "othering" or "exoticizing." Maybe "fetishizing," but, um, not in this context. Though it (mostly) came from a place of geniune appreciation in 1996, the pent-up psychic energy in NA markets around Japan-based developers' RPGs...

DO NOT PANDER TO TEENAGED ME, """INTELLIGENT GAMER"""

Our latest premium bonus episode (or a tasty teaser morsel thereof) is live in all feeds--and for the first time, we have TWO big guests: @glitch.mov and @seanseanson.bsky.social! It's just bursting with international flavor: funfactorpod.com

Newest episode of @funfactorpod.com is out. It’s such a great look at how different the media and culture around video games was back in the 90’s and early 2000’s compared to today. Probably my favorite podcast right now. Still early in their first season. Check ‘em out! youtu.be/cC4bjMo5yGc?...

oooooooooooooh

i gasped out loud

Nah, dawg.

Okay, NOW good FunFactor morning!!!

It’s FunFactor Fuesday! Join us as we dissect this mystery RPG that’s not only one of my favourite games of all—it’s also the game that got me back into retro gaming in the first place.

GOOOOOOOOOOOD FUNFACTOR EVENING!!! In today's episode we cover GameFan Volume 4, Issue 5 and its feature review, of, um, a mystery 16-bit JRPG whose name is in the episode title but @aidanis.fun decided to be coy about for some reason

Ty’s gonna get us blacklisted by Nintendo.

i really didn't think nintendo would do a second media-access whoopise before i got this clip up, but hey

Hey, games industry: Access. Helps. Journalists are not your enemy

The real takeaway here is that “Butts and Culture” is a phenomenal name for a gaming podcast

this is just wonderful games writing

new from me, on @theverge.com (!!!), on the indie game "golden age" that was born out of the nintendo switch launch: www.theverge.com/nintendo/671...

something i’ve been chasing down for @funfactorpod.com is an old game magazine where a featured interviewee cited ‘birth of a nation’ as something video games hadn’t seen yet: a hugely ambitious masterpiece that pushes the medium forward on all fronts and becomes part of the mass-market zeitgeist…

You might hear a familiar voice in this one!

lol

It’s FunFactor Fruesday! Get the latest episode (which I hear is “the best we’ve ever done”) in your favourite podcast app and join us for discussion about 100% surefire classic Secret of Evermore… and then an actually good game when we review the review of Kirby’s Dream Course in Next Gen #5.

GOOOOOOOD FUNFACTOR MORNING!! It's the best episode we've ever done: funfactorpod.com
