Reminded tonight of my favourite Neil Young fan of all time. Circa 1991. Absolutely going for it. Queen. Legend. ❤️

Initially assumed that the below quote was an amusing pisstake on overly earnest biopic trailer bullshit. And then I watched the trailer. Mother of fucking fuck. And it gets even worse after that. “He’s repairing that hole in himself. And once he’s done that…he’s going to repair the entire world”

The BBC Archive channel on YouTube is a gift that keeps on giving. They don’t make football ‘content’ like this anymore. Just tender, and honest, and beautifully shot and framed. The textures, the sounds. And the story is given time to breathe. Fabulous. youtu.be/vJMIf0O52zk?...

My 2 favourite Jaws moments are both Roy Scheider moments. 1: When Quint & Hooper are sitting at the table on the Orca, bullishly comparing war-wounds, & Brody bashfully glances down at his appendix scar. But doesn’t mention it.

“You’re not only wrong, you’re wrong at the top of your voice” What a performance. What a film.

So if you want a pretty representative taste or flavour of the Club World Cup then have a look at this half-time advertisement.

For my sins I’m watching the opening ceremony of the Club World Cup and, lads, it’s as fucking cringe as you could possibly imagine.

My daughter and her friend go to a Gaelic immersion primary school

I think one of the (many) beautiful aspects of Brian Wilson’s music is that even with his catchiest, early/mid 60s songs - the ones that can sound most sunny & confident on first listen - there’s this deep undercurrent of yearning, insecurity, confusion & heartbreak that just permeates everything.

Severance is one of those cultural potpourris where I’m constantly distracted by (potentially) spotting (potential) influences & what it might (potentially) be riffing on. Finished season 2 and there’s still a strong-ish whiff of Halloween 3 & Being John Malkovich in the air.

Currently on a Buffy rewatch with the daughter. On Season 2 at the mo (my most loved of all the seasons). Just got through Surprise (😭), which leads into what might possibly be my favourite run of episodes of any TV show ever. Culminating in an absolutely epic and brutal gut-punch come season’s end.

boxd.it/9P5k81 Bit late to the party, but…

Uncle Charlie right up there (or down there) when it comes to Hitch’s superficially ‘charming’ (psychosexual) psychopaths. Probably only out-psychopathed by John Dall in Rope, or (my personal fave) Robert Walker’s completely unhinged Bruno in Strangers on a Train.

One of my niche-r interests is cataloguing instances of Irish (the language) in classic movies. It’s not (unsurprisingly) much of a catalogue, really. Slim pickings. Here’s one example I wrote about many moons ago. wheresgrandad.wordpress.com/2012/04/22/c...

This. Or Search for Spock. Or IV or V or any of ‘em really. ‘Friendship’ obviously a pretty elastic and barely adequate term in this case. But whatever you want to call it, it’s very beautiful.

The only aspects of the Catholic Church I find myself even remotely (and reluctantly) drawn to anymore are the whole white smoke/black smoke shenanigans & camp theatrics (kinda like a strangled & repressed Eurovision) and those mass-produced plastic tchotchkes & doodahs destined for landfill.

Adventures of Lolo. Still (by a distance) my fave ever puzzle game.

Thought I was hearing things but when Hallgrímsson was being interviewed on the pitch at the end they were playing this art-school 4AD classic over the PA! Kudos. open.spotify.com/track/6A0jiE...

Sublime murmuration shapes again this evening.

Got treated to a pretty spectacular murmuration out by Fedamore this evening. So beautiful.
