I do think it’s interesting that the process to pick a new pope and the process to respond to a loss of a crewed vehicle at NASA both involve locking doors as a critical step.

The optimist in me thinks maybe RFK’s bs report about trans care is so nakedly in opposition to reality it might make some media start reporting about it the same way they report about vaccine denial. The pessimist thinks that reporting will be just as effective as reporting about vaccine denial.

In 1897 the Indiana legislature attempted to define pi as 3.2. The UK’s supreme court has declared today that trans women are actually men. Both ideas are ludicrous, demonstrably false, and deserve to be ridiculed. A shame that one of them has immediate dire consequences for real people.

One of the fun things about fluid dynamics is how changing one variable (say time) allows another variable (like characteristic length) to be changed in a model and still give decent results. Anyway pretending little streams of rainwater are vast rivers is still fun, 30 years after kindergarten.
