Personally I am unfamiliar with any legitimate activity that requires switching license plates, which by the way is illegal.

We still have no idea who the ICE agents are. They could be insurrectionists, extremist militiamen or criminals themselves, chasing law-abiding citizens down the street for recording their kidnappings. The odds they aren't are low. Congress must raise hell about this. A masked gang runs our country.

Seriously, they're the worst!

Masked faces No badges No apparel identifying them as ICE No warrants signed by a judge Those aren't ICE agents. They are bounty hunters kidnapping people off the streets.

If you’ve got a badge and a gun but think your actions are shameful enough to need a mask, you should quit.

A great thing Kristie Dotson said to me about distortions in academic philosophy: she recalls constantly being asked in grad school, “Who’s your guy? Who do you work on?” Kristie’s response: “Who’s my guy? My guy is me.” None of the other “guys” had the answers she needed.

Like I've said before, if you have any doubts about climate change, just go to a super-boring insurance conference and listen to the super-boring panels where they dryly talk about the growing threat of disasters so catastrophic and unpredictable in scope they simply cannot be insured at any price.

As human beings, we have to have higher standards for heroes/leaders/politicians/elected officials/journalists than “I like them because they hurt the people I don’t like.”

I still can't get past the idea that people in America are now supposed to accept that this is a valid form of law enforcement and just assume it's fine when random dudes in groups with face-coverings, no ID, no warrant, & no uniform grab people off the street and force them into unmarked vehicles

The message from ICE is clear: You don't get to question masked agents who aren't wearing a uniform or badge while they try to detain someone. This is what authoritarianism looks like.

Having a bit of a hard time with the concept that if a guy in a police uniform who has a police vehicle shows up I should lock the doors and call 911, but if a guy in a ski mask with an hGH gut appears to be kidnapping my neighbor, I shouldn’t ask who he is if I don’t want federal charges.

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.

“A deranged maniac impersonated a police officer and killed lawmakers but if you’re an immigrant be sure you immediately comply with plain clothes people who won’t identify themselves telling you to get in a van”, what a fuckin country

law enforcement officials say they made a proactive check at Rep. Hortman's home after a lawmaker who lived nearby was shot and found a "police vehicle in the driveway with emergency lights and what appeared to be a police officer at the door coming out of the house." He was actually the gunman.

Walz announces that Rep. Melissa Hortman is dead as a result of a "politically motivated assassination"

We have plenty of reasons to be in the streets today. But one big one is we’re marching because Rep. Melissa Hortman can’t. We’re sending love to her family, and we’re sending rage toward Washington, D.C.

Good morning, "The only free cheese is in the mousetrap." Russian proverb

Counterpoint: Robert E. Lee was a treasonous loser who gladly slaughtered his fellow Americans in defense of slavery while being a mildly above average military tactician. He should’ve been hanged in Lexington.

Watch the slow motion: it appears to me that the officers discuss the photographer and reporter before the one on the end fires on them (it looks to me like he's aiming at the camera, not the reporter, but you decide)

The timeline of this family's generations is one of the most incredible pieces of trivia in American history. RIP, Harrison.

🏺📜🎨 Finally did another discipline-relevant #crossstitch - via a pattern from @xpi.bsky.social (linked below). Didn’t realise it was based on marginalia from my old workplace, the Morgan Library! www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1...

It's weird to me that so many of my neighbors voted to take away their own healthcare to give me a tax cut. They need their health care. I don't need a tax cut. Neither does anyone who makes more than me, either.

This is the funniest science writeup I've seen in a long time. It's about why cats are so perfectly evolved 🧪 Apparently lots of other animals have "tried to be cats" and the fact that other species have so much more variation is "because they suck" 😆 www.scientificamerican.com/article/cats...

Nothing like NHL playoffs

this is a letter to the editor from a high school track runner who came in second to a trans girl in a race. her state house rep in maine started talking about it. so she wrote this: www.pressherald.com/2025/05/14/r...

One crazy thing about this story is that even with the immoral price gouging the company could not maintain independent viability www.propublica.org/article/revl...

Pope Leo spotted on the 2005 World Series broadcast

American needs more white conservative children. That’s why we are closing hospitals in predominantly white conservative parts of the country and having HHS give dangerous medical advice that only white conservatives are stupid enough to believe.

personally would like to see every store show what part of the price increase is due to tariffs bc if these tariffs ever come down, i need to see that price go right back down

There it is, in a nutshell.
