New blog: new paper on science denial. Combatting denialism depends on community approaches to scicomm. Experts need to be supported by academic and research institutions, policymakers, and journalists #academicsky #commsky wp.me/pF3Q3-TP

There is a point at which wealth gives you too much power to shape politics, just as there is a point above which super-rich lifestyles cause extreme harm to the environment. @dhnnjyn.bsky.social on why we need an "extreme wealth line" in @theguardian.com www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Here is the grad speech that NYU is now withholding the student's diploma for: "As I search my heart today in addressing you all…the only thing that is appropriate to say in this time and to a group this large is a recognition of the atrocities currently happening in Palestine."

Israel has rapidly accelerated its destruction of Rafah in April and May. It's hard to understand the magnitude of this, even when spending time analyzing recent satellite imagery. From me, Samuel Granados, Aaron Boxerman, and @rileymellen.bsky.social Gift link: www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

"I look at Starmer's trajectory and it is immensely difficult not to notice the trail of devastation left behind. Disabled people, Palestinians, trans people, and now immigrants. All I can see is someone who is willing to throw anyone out of his hot air balloon, just so it can rise higher."

The ABC interviewed the @adriftlab.bsky.social team on Lord Howe Island last month. Even this article doesn't capture the feeling of heartbreak and grim reality of feeling plastic crunch inside a live seabird chick. #ornithology #PlasticPollution

I also discuss the bizarre and disturbing association between the Starmer government and former special advisers to Boris Johnson and Liz Truss. I vaguely remember being told something about "Change". But this continuity is beyond our worst nightmares. Not just Tory policies, but actual Tories.

"The end is in sight for the supremacy of trans ideology" The GC movement in the UK has marshalled billionaires, baronesses and basically ever major media outlet, but they still cast themselves as the underdogs waging war against imagined trans "elites" with a straight face.

This is hugely important - not just because: *It improves food security (Dig for Democracy) *It increases access to nutritious food *Can increase biodiversity *Increases awareness of how food is produced But also it can be a highly sociable activity, promote social cohesion and community building.

It's been great to work with WHALE Arts in Wester Hailes and my students over the past couple of weeks on workshops for budding young birders and artists!

Attacking the rights of a marginalised group isn’t a win for feminism. Demanding that women be defined by our biology isn't a win for feminism. The people driving this are not acting in the interests of women. They're taking us all backwards and ushering in the far right.

People learn nothing. Arendt wrote so clearly about the increasing targetting of people, starting with non-nationals, then dual nationals, then a succession of undesirable nationals. Nothing will protect you. Fascism requires an ever larger circle of enemies to blame for its own failings.

This healthcare ceo is hard to talk about because how much death can you cause indirectly before you’re a murderer who got murdered? How do you convince yourself it doesn’t count if you kill people with policy instead of a gun? What do you have to believe about life and systems and human worthiness?

Saving ‘old and wise’ animals vital for species’ survival, say scientists

There are many non-honeybee insects that pollinate flowers, but not a lot of images showing it clearly. I got lucky to accidentally catch this beetle literally depositing pollen on a flower's pistil. #pollination #insects #bugs #photography #science #pollen

Great footage. There is too much focus on bees (especially honey bees) as pollinators of *everything* but pollination is 100% the outcome of a place-based interaction. So many other animals can pollinate flowers, and many of these interactions are location-specific 🌏

Clive is bang on here. This is very basic stuff that Labour are getting so completely wrong. People who are struggling are not benefiting from hawks like Blackrock being given partnerships. Not only are they not benefiting - they're a huge part of the reason that inequality is so huge.
