"After Brexit, Britain will be free to trade with the whole world."

Not often you see a global premier of a play, but to see SEVEN in one sitting is extraordinary! Superb night at Attenborough Arts Centre, Uni of Leicester watching 14:48 perform flawlessly 10 minute plays written and performed in 24 hrs. Amazing energy and vitality as a result 👏 #arts #theatre

Gentle reminder - it is never too soon to join a trades union #academicsky

On this day in 1997, a group of walkers commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Cornish rising of 1497 crossed from Cornwall into England at Polson Bridge near Launceston. They were retracing the route taken by the Cornish toward London 〓〓 ⚔️

Our village pub giving a bit of a ‘windows in the west’ feel. Wish I had a better camera than my phone! #photography

What's completely bizarre about this is that universities *are* a key engine for growth - for every £1 of public money invested in universities £14 is returned into the economy.

The (evacuated) Swiss village of Blatten has been partially destroyed after a huge chunk of glacier crashed down into the valley. One person has been reported missing, and many homes have been completely flattened. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Big sky, Leicestershire

One for the volcanologists ❤️⚒️

Final presentations by my Masters students today. It’s fair to say we have all been on a journey - it was a great finale - well done Kuba, Ben and Sam!

Folks, it's 2025. If you're setting up a meeting(s) and not sending an Outlook/Google Calendar/iCal invite to the attendees, then is it really a meeting? Or, can we get this done over email? If it isn't on my calendar, I won't be there. Sorry. #FacultyLife

Hell yeah! Reward after a day’s hard labour

Your 'bonus moment of doom' for today: "The carbon capture company Climeworks only captures a fraction of the CO2 it promises its machines can capture. The company is failing to carbon offset the emissions resulting from its operations – which have grown rapidly in recent years."

Fantastic workshop yesterday led by @timgbenton.bsky.social imagining our possible environmental futures with a team from across the university. Thought provoking and sobering. A rare moment of how I always imagined university should be! You know it has been good when 4 hours goes in a flash

I suspect this is how society will end - having to eat “I can’t believe it’s not butter!” because there is nothing else left.

Over a week now since the initial #cyberattack and our local co-op still has lots of bare shelves. Now imagine a coordinated multiservice cyberattack against a nation - in our modern interconnected society would we have #resilient enough systems to cope??

Depressing morning. Obvious that the government doesn’t care what happens to universities (major employers and ‘exporters’), even looking at increasing tax on their main income stream. Our vice-chancellor announces 100 extra staff job losses. For a university our size, absolutely devastating.

This image cannot be shared enough. This is what our country would look like if we stop pumping water out of our polders. And in the meantime, we have closed all but one earth science departments, because it’s a little but more expensive than the average study. What could possibly go wrong.
