There are a bunch of things that delay trains here in the UK. This isn’t the first delay due to a stubborn swan on the tracks that I’ve heard. In related news, we also take our swans very seriously! 🤣🦢

In an attempt to revitalize the content on my poor, neglected blog, here's a short blog post about Using CHAOSS Practitioner Guides to Improve your OSS Projects: fastwonderblog.com/2025/05/08/u... Enjoy!

ICYMI: quick look at the Redis recliensing, the recent rise of the AGPL and decline of the SSPL, CNCF vs Synadia and what it all means for open source redmonk.com/sogrady/2025...

I had my citizenship ceremony today, so I am now officially a UK citizen! Paul presented me with a UK “welcome pack” after the ceremony 🤣 and we celebrated at our local Indian restaurant with a bottle of Prosecco and lunch! I still have my US citizenship, since I can keep both (dual citizenship). 🇬🇧🇺🇸

The Kubernetes v1.34 Shadow Application is now open! Apply here to work with me and help release one of the largest open source projects in the world: forms.gle/ESb6983wA7Nq... You have until midnight anywhere 18 May to throw your hat into the ring! 🦇

When I get out of this fucking thing it's over for all you motherfuckers. Over

We’re back to making our own cocktails after 2 weeks of holidays. The resort we stayed at had pink and white plumeria flowers all over the place, so I designed some new 3D printed cocktail toppers to remember our stay in Thailand.

It can't be understated how much the OSU Open Source Lab has done for open source, in Oregon and worldwide, for 22 years now. So many folks I've worked with have come through there, and been introduced to open source principles, to system administration, to their careers and hobbies.

We enjoyed a day of relaxing with fruity drinks and then went back to the place with the amazing view for our last dinner in Thailand. Tomorrow, we start our journey home where we get back to reality, instead of vacation life 😁

The Oregon State open source lab which provides hosting for hundred of open source projects, as well as research, resources, and support to countless other others is in trouble and we will shut down soon if they can’t find $250,000. Spread the word and donate give.fororegonstate.org/PL1Uv3Fkug

Libera.Chat would not be what we are today, if not for OSL. OSL has been an integral part of open source and open culture project support for a long time. Nonprofits, businesses, and governments, and you depend on projects OSL sponsors. OSL is worth saving. osuosl.org/blog/osl-fut... #osuosl

It’s about to be MAINTAINER MONTH aka May If you have anything maintainer-centric going on in May, get it added to the website! maintainermonth.github.com

If your company has funds to donate, this is a fabulous org that supports oss projects and gives students hands-on sys admin / open source training. I 💖 the OSUOSL and hope they’re able to raise the money to continue.

Researchers are inviting death metal singers into the lab to understand how they can scream, growl, and squeal without hurting their vocal tissues. What they’re finding upends conventional wisdom on vocal health. ✍️ @ohyeahitscouch.bsky.social

@mrbobbytabl.es @jeefy.dev Thanks for recommending Dungeon Crawler Carl! I’m on the second book, and it’s perfect vacation reading while we’re in Thailand! 💖

We’re still enjoying ourselves while relaxing with delicious food and cocktails in Thailand.

The biggest thing that I wish people knew before starting their 1st tech job (probably most jobs) is that asking someone more experienced for the “answer” is what you should do as soon as you get stuck. It’s drilled into students that this is “cheating”, so this is a big change for new hires.

Movie you’ve watched more than six times using gifs. (“Hard mode” no Star Wars, trek, or LOTR)

Yesterday, while I was sitting in my beach chair, I heard a stick fall out of a tree and land on my umbrella. After the stick started moving around, I realized that it was an adorable lizard! #Thailand

Vegan Tofush and chips from the Coach and Horses vegetarian pub in London. Lots of places use vegan fish substitutes to make vegan tofish and chips, but I really don’t like fake meat. The Coach and horses took tofu wrapped in nori and fried it. It was way more delicious than I’m making it sound 🤣

How I arrived on Bluesky

We’re continuing to enjoy relaxing, reading, drinking fruity drinks and eating delicious food here in Thailand. We’ve also confirmed that Paul is still a mosquito magnet - he has a bajillion mosquito bites and because they flock to him, I have 0 bites.

Just finished the latest from @scalzi.com, “When the Moon Hits Your Eye” and I can’t recommend it enough, especially if you’re alreaady a Scalzi fan. As with every previous book of his, it was hard to put down. Go get it. Read it. Thank John (and me) later.

After flying all night and getting to our hotel in Thailand this afternoon, I finally feel like I’m on holiday. I’m relaxing next to the pool, I can see the ocean, and I have a rum cocktail with ginger and lime. 🏝️

I’m on vacation for the next couple of weeks! Now we just need to get through the 20+ hours of travel that it will take us to get to where we’re staying in Thailand, and then it will feel like I’m on vacation 😁🌴🏖️🍹

@amye.org Didn’t you recently ask me if Londoners really carry huge items on public transit? 🤣💖

I feel pretty great for 54! We spent my birthday having a vegan Sunday roast at Mildred’s, a walk through Regents Park, an afternoon drinking tea at the British library, and Ethiopian food for dinner.

Since this is the first really warm and sunny afternoon of the year, we dusted off our outside chairs and table to enjoy some gin & tonics in the sunshine. We don’t get many of these days in the UK, so we feel obligated to make an effort to enjoy them 😁🍸🌼

Such a fun book!

The @cncf.io announced a new job board dedicated to open source jobs at #KubeCon gitjobs.dev The platform itself is open source #jobception github.com/cncf/gitjobs

The nice thing about having #KubeCon here is that I can come home to have a Pimm’s (it’s almost a requirement on warm, sunny days), very spicy leftover Homemade Korean noodles with kimchi, and then sleep in my own bed. 😁

I made like 100 pairs of Kubernetes earrings for #Kubecon so please stop by the GitHub booth later and grab some!

Listening to some of the awesome UK contributors to the CNCF @openuk.bsky.social BOF at #KubeCon EU 2025

Fascinating keynote by @robcube.bsky.social at #KubeCon where he explains K8s-based real-time video processing tech for scalable sign language interpretation.

Beautiful talk by Rob Koch about using kubeflow and AI to build a system for understanding sign language. Normalise platforming talks given in sign language. Well played @cncf.io. that was extremely well done.

Had a fantastic day at the #KubeCon maintainer summit! Gave 2 talks and saw some of my favorite people! 💖
