Despite promises of cuts from Trump and Elon, the U.S. spent about $220 billion more in the first 100 days than it did last year. We’re spending far more and getting far less. So where is all the money going?

Poet Skye Jackson is coming to the Kerouac House! Her welcome potluck is this Saturday.

At the Kerouac house Saturday night!

“A Massachusetts immigration lawyer who is a US-born American citizen…received an email from Trump administration immigration authorities telling her she needed to leave the country.” “Probably, hopefully, [it was] sent to me in error,” she said. 4/15/25 www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

BREAKING: 36k people showed up in LA for Bernie and AOC’s rally. In the off year. Americans are pissed — and anyone ignoring that is making a big mistake.

We’re having another humor writing workshop! April 18th online at 7pm EST.

Spectacular view of 100,000 people attending the #HandsOff march in NYC

Check out the latest writing workshop coming up!

"When investigators in the field confronted a potentially life-threatening contamination that compromised drug sterility, Pohlhaus was the person they would call. He’s the one who helped them gather evidence that could halt dangerous manufacturing or shut down a pipeline of compromised products."

I think a lot about the organizing of queer groups in the 70s and 80s, and how much the idea seemed to be (looking back at it and secondhand), "I don't need you to be perfect, I just need you to show up." Affinity groups, disagreeing often but PRESENT, with common goals but a diversity of tactics.

Joaquin Castro: "The idea that this information, if it was presented to our committee would not be classified, y'all know is a lie."

“One young man sobbed when a guard pushed him to the floor. He said, ‘I’m not a gang member. I’m gay. I’m a barber.’ I believed him. *** He “began to whimper,” as his head was roughly shaved, “folding his hands in prayer as his hair fell.” He “asked for his mother & cried as he was slapped again.”

Take a moment and read. This is what’s happening. These prisoners had no due process. This is what Trump wants done to protesters.

They're trying to deport my colleague from the med school and holding her without counsel. She was coming back from a visit to her family. If there are ways to help I'll let you know. www.providencejournal.com/story/news/l...

Many hours have passed and I’ve thought about what happened in the Senate some more. And you know what? I’m still mad as hell. I may just repost their names every day until everyone knows them by heart.

We have each other. We are the Resistance now. All of us.

BREAKING: Hundreds of Jews and allies have taken over Trump Tower chanting “We want justice, you say how. Bring Mahmoud home now!” and “Fight Nazis, not students.” The civil disobedience is spawned by the ICE arrest of Palestinian student Mahmoud Khalil.

Mahmoud Khalil’s lawyer Ramzi Kassem breaks down the shaky legal grounds the Trump administration is using to prosecute the Palestinian activist, including a rarely used legal provision “enacted primarily to target Eastern European Jewish Holocaust survivors."

So, for those of you not following, the 1952 code that gives the Secretary of State authority to deport anyone deemed a threat to national security, the one they're using against Mahmoud, was written in the heart of the McCarthy era, a way to target "communists" ie Eastern European Jews.

GOP is gutting DC funding so that it has to fall under trump administration rule. That will mean no protests allowed in DC and potentially National guard in the streets. archive.ph/2025.03.09-2...

First, the US is stopping military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, which would result in its inability to protect its civilians from Russian missiles. Now it is about to order 240,000 Ukrainian refugees in the US to go back and die under Russian bombs www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...

Just got an email from the Fulbright Association. As of right now, funding has been cut off to 12,500 US citizens currently abroad and and more than 7,400 foreigner scholars and students in the United States

Well known feminist activists Femen participated in a bold demonstration to denounce "the rise of fascism in Europe and the world" at the International Women's Day march in Paris. The protest targeted specifically Trump, Putin, and Melon of Italy #Protest #InternationalWomensDay #Activism

If George Dale in Muncie, Indiana could risk his life - and spend regular time in jail - to constantly make fun of the KKK in his newspaper in the 1920s, we can take no shit from MAGAs today. dansinker.com/posts/2025-0...

In an extraordinary display of public support, heads of state, heads of government, and foreign ministers from all over Europe and Canada are posting in support of Ukraine in response to the Oval Office meeting with Trump, Zelenskyy, and Vance.

Today, a reporter from the Russian state news agency TASS gained unauthorized access to the Oval Office. How does one gain unauthorized access to the Oval Office? Meanwhile, AP and Reuters were blocked.

In case anyone forgets the kind of leader Zelensky is, when the US offered him safe evacuation after Russia INVADED, he replied: “The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride" The American people are with you #Ukraine #Zelensky

I’ll be there. Who else is going?

I think from now on I’m just going to call Drumpf by his Russian asset code name “Krasnov.” We all should.

Three updates: 1. The Justice Department has deleted a database tracking federal police misconduct. The database was first proposed in 2020 following the police killing of George Floyd.

Today, I found out that the Department of Defense banned the Well-Read Black Girl anthology by Glory Edim. I was one of its contributors. I'm really hurt right now. So if you have it in you, please buy books by Black women from independent bookstores.

Spread the word.
