You absolutely need someone reining in Sorkin's worst impulses for this to have any chance of capturing the original's magic. With him directing, I don't see that happening.

Watched "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" last night. Nobody told me it was funny! Matthau remains the king grouch.

cannot tell you how much I love this guy's approach I would describe my personal politics as "pragmatic leftist" - I want to see leftist policy actually implemented, not just idealized, and that means coalition-building, that means big tent, that means broad buy-in

Hmmm ...

Relatedly, I was wondering how accurate the depiction of '60s/'70s VA conditions was in this, and it turns out ... depressingly, horrifyingly accurate.

I think my favorite response is "Kind of missed the whole phenomenon."

Sesame sticks and hummus is the best snack combo. Simply unbeatable.

Might start posting my Letterboxd reviews again. I just put on "To Live and Die in L.A." What a fever dream. A little key-bump of pure '80s exploitation.

New teas!

[No spoilers] I love that tonally 28 Years Later unspools like a collection of Raymond Carver stories, then teases that the sequel might be a collection of Chuck Palahniuk stories

Look, I've gotten better about accepting that aging comes with getting sore more easily, but it still sucks when a new ache arises for no good reason. Such a cheap shot.

About to dig into Gilded Age S3. The big question: can the hats get any bigger???

I was a movie dork who thought cinema began and ended with the Coen brothers, and I had the poster for "The Man Who Wasn't There" when it came out. What a choice.

This is basically where I'm at hourly.

it’s even more demoralizing when the history you’re repeating is history you were around for the first time

I expect Congress to continue to get dog walked.

Picked a hell of a day to leave the house for a haircut. But first, the coffeeshop, to finish this godforsaken book before book club.

I don't even have anywhere to go, but now I wanna hop on a train for a bit.

What does it mean when you're hitting the gym to Phoebe Bridgers?

It's like someone landed and turned into a puddle.

I guess it was only a matter of time that the very idea of a reverse-chron feed would be met with conspiracy theories.

What movie should I start at 12:30 a.m.?

Yeah, I wrote the one 'lil thread just a moment ago, and from now on it's

People: There aren't enough Bluesky users. It's all over. Me: I think it's fine. People: Bluesky's become an echo chamber. It's all over. Me: I think it's fine. People: Bluesky daily activity per user is declining! It's all over. Me: I think it's fine. People: Vance joined. Me: It's all over.

In the spring of 2008, I feared America was on the verge of war with Iran — and, believing that it’s good style to get to know people before you bomb them, I made “Rick Steves’ Iran,” a one-hour special that could (and would) only debut on PBS. Sadly, this special has become pertinent again today.

If you're not following @columboscreens.bsky.social, you really should.

Hitting up a late showing of The Phoenician Scheme.

Got curious and plugged this into Merlin Bird ID. I could hear the American robins just fine without the app's help, but apparently there's a downy woodpecker hiding in that audio, too. I'm still not sure.
