After years of service, my company has given me the prestigious "Chairmans Award". It's a nice trophy and a great honour but I can't look at it without seeing the missing apostrophe. It's going into a bottom drawer somewhere.

I was the narrative consultant on #TheContestant, a disturbing tale of a true-life Truman, and it’s on telly on Tuesday. Directed by lovely Clair Titley, edited by @rachelmeyrick.bsky.social - www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

Poverty is very expensive- John Bird with the excellent Pippa Crerar - www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

This has frightened me. I sort of wish I hadn't read it, but I urge you to read it anyway...

This is such a game-changer in Kastle Kirk!Hooray for long summer holidays where we can truly explore our region by bus (we don’t have a car, but we love the West!) 🚌 🌳🐝🌿

You learn something new every day…

Quote this with your most spine-chilling three-word phrase in the English language. I bet you can't beat "replacement bus service" or "family fun day".

Face covered in cobwebs, legs covered in dew. A lovely walk to work this morning.

One more day!

You may have seen media coverage, or have heard from worried friends and relatives, of Bath & North East Somerset Council's review of workers' jobs across the organisation. The Labour Group released a statement today: www.facebook.com/BANESCllrs/p...

Meta has gone to great lengths to hide its content moderation operation, where workers are tasked with reviewing disturbing content Workers say they were instructed to tell no one, not even their families, about the nature of their work (1/4) www.thebureauinvestigates.com/stories/2025...

On World Press Freedom Day, TBIJ's Editor @wildfranz.bsky.social explains why the renewed targeting of journalists should worry everyone: www.thebureauinvestigates.com/blog/2025-05...

I suggest folks start putting "anti-AI statements" in their publications and talks. For example, state that you didn't use AI for any aspect of your work and that you didn't cite any studies that used AI. This shows worker solidarity and makes visible the collective action against AI.

Huge congratulations to Helen Godwin, the new Labour Metro Mayor in the West of England. www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol...

I love these. Delve into James’s site and you’ll even find a painting of Flashheart (yes! Blackadder!)!

Yes, this is a genuine 1949 DC Comics illustration printed on book covers distributed to schools in the US.

In a lovely village between Bristol & Bath, lie Gina Belford’s paint workshops. They’re for everyone, from the creatively curious to the creatively locked. Teams, mates, family, solo. I did one- best gift ever. She’s got dates coming up. Best gift ever. www.ginabelfordart.co.uk/workshopspage

25 more days til it’s 5 years of Norwegian Bokmål, with Italian, French, Scottish Gaelic & Welsh en route. Bloody love what Duolingo have done. (the Norsk course is FUN 🇳🇴… «sjefen hørtes ut som en bortskjemt barn», «edderkoppen ga ham overnaturlige krefter» & «jeg ligger på gulvet og gråter»…)

Coming up tonight!

When the moment came, Harvard didn’t hedge or flinch—it stood up. A reminder that integrity isn’t complicated, it’s just rare.

Maybe a stupid question… but…. you know those graphs that show increase in a phrase’s online search over time - how do you get that info? Anticipating a massive “doh!” moment… oh well- 🤞 TY! 😃

Old message from my friend Simon: “Promised you a list of names of poisonous British mushrooms. I realise now that it reads like a list of rejected Cocteau Twins song titles.”
