Darren Beattie - the State Dept official who dismantled the US government's main center for fighting Russian and Chinese propaganda around the world - turns out to have personal ties to the Russian elite. www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2025...

It's also worth pointing out that he has particular views about population control.

Darren Beattie, a Trump-appointed official who dismantled the US government’s Russian disinformation unit, is married to a woman whose uncle has taken several roles in Russian politics and once received a personal “thank you” message from Vladimir Putin. No paywall: archive.ph/2025.06.03-1...

We’re waiting, JD.

A former “friend” told me he cared for me & wanted me to have everything I needed… but that it was time I realize I’m a net negative in society. He referenced my “free surgeries”, countless ER trips & how the system was artificially extending my life. 🧵

Please read this if you can bear to. Kelly’s former friend is saying the quiet part out loud, but we all know that these disgusting views are the real underlying subtext and meaning of vast parts of discourse about illness and disability.

Hi, I'm currently looking into the impact of the PIP cuts on carers for the Big Issue: I'm interested in speaking to anyone receives PIP *and* Carer's Allowance, and who is potentially at risk from the new "four point rule" please repost for circulation

I see Honest Bob Jenrick has a new little video attacking barristers for representing unpopular clients. Once again for those at the back: Lawyers are not their clients. Which is how, when Jenrick broke the law in government, he had lawyers to defend him.

One day politicians will have to treat the public like grown ups and force them to grapple with reality. Until then, this is the trap we are stuck in.

Please listen to the UN General Secretary.

Listening to @lewisgoodall.com on @lbc.co.uk re Reform scrutiny. Between the interview with Zia Yusuf & ‘John from Wallington’ I have lost hope in humanity. Zero contact with reality, no respect for objective facts/data, but total faith in the dear leader. If only there were a lesson from history!😳

To cheer everyone up, here is an anecdote about when David Bowie was filming the video for Ashes to Ashes.

Good morning!

I had to read Allison Pearson for an upcoming Substack article on the case of Lucy Connolly. Christ, it was grim.

“Farage was Brexit’s biggest champion, and we all know it has made us poorer. 📉 "All the data and research backs this up – and people across Scotland feel it every time they go to the shops or pay their bills.” The architect of the problem promises to be the solution.

Imagine if a referendum were held in which 52% of those who voted declared that the Earth was flat. And that subsequently everyone in the UK was forced to behave as if the Earth was indeed flat, and all main parties said "Ok, flat it is. Evidence be damned." That's Brexit.

It will probably come as no surprise to anyone to learn that Nigel Farage’s ‘£7 Billion DEI Savings’ Don’t Actually Exist bylinetimes.com/2025/05/30/n...

A thousand times this. We seem to be following the US down the ugliest paths known to man.

And we thought he couldn't do comedy

‘How the Media is Cashing in on the Rise of Nigel Farage’ News organisations are failing the country at the moment when responsible independent journalism is most needed, argues Mathilda Mallinson bylinetimes.com/2025/05/30/r...

Ehud Olmert on previously defending Israel against accusations of war crimes: “In recent weeks I’ve been no longer able to do so. What we are doing in Gaza now is a war of devastation: the indiscriminate, limitless, cruel and criminal killing of civilians. […] Yes, Israel is committing war crimes.”

The most important achievement of the right in the C21st has been the invention of an all-powerful "establishment" that does not include the editor of the Sunday Telegraph, the world's richest media moguls, the party that was in govt for 14 years, Boris Johnson or the billionaire president of the US

Memorial Day is always a time that I take a pause and think of the ones I lost in service. Not just my own men but family and my Iraqi partners who risked their lives for me. I went for my traditional hike today. Now I’m grabbing a cold one and lunch. Here are a few of the men I’m thinking of today.

Mark Carney, "We have what the world wants, we have the values the world respects" "To build big, to build bold, to build together"

More worrying still - that doesn't sound like Trump. I've noticed a distinct shift in the style of his posts recently.

33 years ago, on 23rd May 1992, Giovanni Falcone is assassinated, along with Francesca Morvillo, Vito Schifani, Rocco Dicillo and Antonio Montinaro. This thread tells the story of how he is undermined, isolated and abandoned to his destiny by the state he so loyally serves >> 1

“I still remember these kids and I cry every time I remember them.” Dr Ahmmed Al-Farra speaks to Jackie Long after his colleague Dr Alaa al-Najjar learned nine of her children were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza. Read and watch here:

Hannah Arendt published The Origins of Totalitarianism in 1951. It is a great failure that we still wonder at the seemingly illogical functions of authoritarian rule when she laid out its structures and affects so clearly. Here she is on cynicism, lies and propaganda, a history of today.

An incredible and very funny clip. He's got nothing: no intelligence, no comprehension, no structured thought. Just the angry bitter wailing of his empty mind. What an embarrassment he truly is, and how embarrassed his advocates should be for promoting him.

Many of us have been lucky enough to love 💕 and eventually mourn 😰 a pet who was, for us, “the best dog (or cat or [fill in] ) ever.” This is an obit we can all have tried to write ✍️ ourselves . . . newsletters.democracydocket.com/in-memory-of...

Not his biggest fan but Peter Hitchens was spot on with this, these endless pointless polls about LE's next year and a GE in 4 years are not remotely helpful, what's the point of them,is there no real news to report, who knew.

Isn’t the real question here why anybody is asking the opinion of the father of a former Prime Minister?

I have tried & failed to find appropriate words to describe this extraordinary article. Suffice to say that if you read it, you will never forget it. Or the little boy at its heart.
