As someone who recently has cared for someone with the norovirus recently, and thankfully didn’t catch it again, this is a great post by Dr Andrea Love. Covid has taught us how important cleaning your hands is, and not just with sanitiser.

Norovirus is a cool virus because it doesn't have a lipid envelope. That means it is incredibly stable in the environment. So in addition to causing violent vomiting, diarrhea, & stomach cramping, it can be shed in your stool for 2 weeks, AND hand sanitizers are ineffective on it. FUN!

Rest in Peace President Carter.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Yeah, “no hope in hell” springs to mind.

“My favorite fact about Jimmy Carter was that the modest home he lived in as an ex-President cost less than the Secret Service SUVs parked outside of it to protect its occupants. A man who taught Sunday school and built homes for Habitat for Humanity well into his twilight years.”

New, from me: Carter was the last President to reform the civil service system. He took executive branch ethics seriously. These aspects of his Presidency matter as they clash with Trump's vision of the administrative state as a politicized ethics-free zone. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/jimmy-cart...

Elon’s telling us the H1Bs are all super geniuses while Trump is telling us they are cutting his grass.

The Tories didn’t build enough houses to keep their base happy and wealthy, with housing as an investment vehicle. Now housing is a Labour problem that is near impossible to fix.

This is fun.

Here’s a nightcap for the Elon/Loomer fight….he had enough so he just demonetized her account 🤣🍿….will check back for more updates tomorrow

Vivek Ramaswamy has always been a fraud.

Housing is a human right.

One of the things that really shocked me in reading Matthew Desmond's eviction is how rare being unhoused used to actually be. People lived in shitty conditions but they weren't on the streets. The risk that we all live under now is from policy decisions especially since the 1980s.

How many shows is Taylor Sheridan running? Does he sleep?

Hard not to assume this is because Labour also don't want to turn off their dark money tap.

I wrote about crypto. The knock has been that the technology has few use cases. But, post-election I think crypto's legacy is clearer. Its killer app is creating a money/influence flywheel for a specific type of reactionary anti-institutionalist to influence politics. It's gonna get weird (gift)

Sam Altman, like Jeff Bezos and Zuckerberg know Elon Musk is really in charge, and Trump is not even the Vice-President.

A relative is finally divorced, the best thing for him, he was miserable for years. He could have gone to a restaurant with his grown-up children and family, but no, another miserable Christmas ahead, this time at his ex-wife place. Unhappiness can be addictive.

This very British type of complacency is infuriating and reminiscent of the useless Remain campaign in 2016, which failed to learn that the lying, manipulative hard Right doesn’t play by the same ethical rules as nice folk, has no sense of honourable conduct and sees fair play as weakness.

The horrific attacks in Magdeburg also go to show how a social media environment made up of increasingly fragmented and eclectic sub-cultures going through radicalisation makes it very difficult for security services to anticipate the next ideological trigger for terror attacks.

Jessica: You say that people wanted this -- the richest man in the world wanted this. What's your problem with a bipartisan cancer research program?

AI is indeed transformative, but Brexit has already negatively impacted the money-making UK’s cultural sector, so why would Labour allow tech firms to use copyrighted work to train AI?

The Musk presidency is getting off to a good start.
