"How is this scientific?" That’s what I was asked while testifying in court on behalf of a person with #LongCOVID seeking work comp benefits. What followed was an attack on me, and on the legitimacy of infection-associated illness, lived experience, and equity in medicine. /🧵

🧵The former head of NHS Test & Trace has told the Covid Inquiry many lives could have been saved if the government had given disadvantaged people more support to self-isolate. This political failure had devastating consequences for many thousands. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...

#Covid is rearing its ugly head again. We don't have to let this virus terrorise vulnerable people forever & put our kids at risk of serious long-term complications. Please join @greensagainstcovid.bsky.social to campaign for rational, compassionate public health policy.

Our evidence-based rebuttal to *that* BMJ opinion piece published last week. This has been authored by a coalition of 19 doctors, scientists and patient advocates from around the world, with now 80+ signatures of support from the scientific community. www.bmj.com/content/389/...

Excellent article that should be read by every member of a green party. @greenparty.org.uk @greenpartyie.bsky.social @greenpartyni.org @europeangreens.eu us greens? gpew has a policy, but how many members actually realise the issues?

@greensagainstcovid.bsky.social #LongCOVID has affected up to 2% of the entire UK population in the last 5 years, but we still don’t fully understand this often debilitating new disease Wednesday, June 4 www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/crick-cras...

Gee, I wonder why… (No question mark cos I’m not really asking a question. C19 infections increase the risk of all of the below…)

#CovidIsNotOver

deadline 11th May

I do wonder how many people actually understand that covid didn't just 'go away' and the 2nd biggest wave was in January 2024, long after most thought it was in the rear view mirror. They just stopped testing! That's why 'cases' went down and wastewater didn't!

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨 CATA (The Covid Airborne Transmission Alliance) has, once again, written to Health Minister, Ashley Dalton, on the topic airborne transmission of Covid-19 and other diseases and her stated refusal to change IPC guidance. Our letter can be found here: tinyurl.com/ykvftvdu /1 of 11

Welcome to all the fabulous, new @greenparty.org.uk representatives around the country after the local elections. You will work hard for your constituents and really listen. Remember, when you put policy into practice, that the Green Party is also the only party with a #covid and #longcovid policy.

Today we changed the number of covid dead on the banner at the memorial wall. We will not forget them. ❤️ #CovidIsNotOver

I’m begging people to mask back up. Wear a well fitted respirator like an N95, especially in crowded places like tourist attractions, public transit, airports and healthcare settings. Get your boosters. Check your vaccination status. But don’t underestimate the effects of wearing a mask!

I’m demonstrating virtually outside the 🇩🇪 @bundestag.de. Day 2️⃣0️⃣9️⃣ 📢 #CallForPublicHealthAction 📢 Demonstration for the right to #CleanAir, vaccines, evidence-based infection control, scientifically sound public education, adequate care & biomedical research for #LongCovid / #MECFS

🎉 Congrats to all the new @greenparty.org.uk councillors elected today across England! 💚 I'm so pleased to see how many more communities will now be served by hard-working Greens, after our 8th consecutive year of growth in local elections. ...🧵

"During an average follow up of 22 weeks, the pooled prevalence of long COVID among HCWs who had SARS-CoV-2 infection was 40%". Read that again. 40% of health workers, globally, experienced Long COVID - www.cidrap.umn.edu/covid-19/stu...

Could this molecule be 'checkmate' for coronaviruses like #SARSCoV2? UC San Francisco & Gladstone Institutes, also in San Francisco, have developed new drug candidates that show great promise against the #Covid virus & potentially other coronaviruses that might cause future pandemics 👇

We have found that most people really do not know that there is still plenty of SarsCov2 in the population and that it represents a threat to their health. This is a failure of government messaging, possibly deliberate.

"This plan requires ventilation and filtration upgrades, CO2 monitoring systems, and free N95/KN95 respirators (masks)." #covidisnotover #weararespirator #measlesisairborne www.ontarioschoolsafety.com/updates/onta...

I wonder if this was #SeeAMaskWearAMask - ie an act of respect &care to protect others? Or maybe @carladenyer.bsky.social is protecting herself (she wrote about picking up a lot of infections) Whatever the reason, 💚 photo of her wearing a respirator mask & mentioning it in Alt text. #MaskUp 😷

📣 Reminder!! If you're in England, Northern Ireland or Wales, have (or care for someone with) #LongCovid or #MECFS, & receive PIP, UC or ESA, please take our 5-10 min survey - link in this thread ⬇️ (Note: We are working on a tailored version for Scotland, due to a different system there.)

Good to see! Thanks, @carladenyer.bsky.social ...we can still see your smile! Looks like a great day. @greensagainstcovid.bsky.social #MaskUP

Will the next infection be the one that will tip you over into #longCOVID #burnout? Spin the wheel to find out. Don't you feel lucky there may be a +90% chance you’ll be just fine?

@ashleydaltonmp.bsky.social this is because sarscov2 is #airborne. We could significantly reduce the health and economic burden if our IPC protocols were based in that fact.

People who ask why we mask don’t know the truth.

I just got COVID and this current variant is absolutely terrible. People aren’t talking or worrying about COVID yet the infection rates have tripled since thanksgiving. If you are vulnerable to serious symptoms, mask up. Trust me, it’s nasty.

🧠 New study finds Covid shrinks key brain pathways tied to balance + body regulation The irony of it's “just in your head”—it’s literally in our brains! 🌉 Authors propose the 'broken bridge theory' as an hypothesis for #LongCovid 📝🖇️ tinyurl.com/5evpjdwa

Pneumonia During COVID-19 Linked to Long COVID in Kids A new study found that children who had pneumonia during COVID-19 were more likely to develop long COVID. Researchers recommend follow-up care for these children to monitor for ongoing symptoms.

What kind of appalling response is this @ashleydaltonmp.bsky.social ?

Sweden and four other European countries studied 29,564 hospitalized adults with COVID-19 and found bacterial or viral co-infections nearly doubled during the Omicron wave. These co-infections raised in-hospital death risk by 69%. academic.oup.com/jid/advance-...

UK study of 8804 people with ME/CFS or long COVID found severe symptom overlap and delays in diagnosis. Just 10% saw better care after NICE guidelines. Most relied on self-management, highlighting urgent gaps in NHS support and specialist access. bmjopen.bmj.com/content/15/4...

🚨 Large 10K study on NHS care for #MECFS & #LongCovid 👉 Only 14% of pwLC, 7% of pwME received 'good' care 👉40% of pwME not seen a specialist in +5yrs The question isn't just keeping clinics open, the priority is the radical overhaul they need 📝🖇️: tinyurl.com/kbysazz3

Long Covid keeps finding new ways to suck. I've noticed that I keep learning something and then realizing that I'd already learned it, months ago, but I'd forgotten.

“[O]ne large survey [from] the [CDC] found about 6% of adults in NY state [had] long COVID in 2023, similar to the national rate. That amounts to about 500,000 people with long COVID in [NYC] alone.” gothamist.com/news/shrinki...

While people might want to move on from the SARS-COV-2 pandemic (our preparedness for the next pandemic remains a huge concern) this timely piece reminds us that the scale of cronyism around PPE and ventilator contracts must be fully investigated.
