Happy Pansexual visibility day to me🥰 #pansexual #lgbtqia

The murder of two Israeli Embassy staffers outside the Capital Jewish Museum in D.C. tonight is horrifying. This is what happens when antisemitic propaganda is permitted to go unaccountable. We cannot condone hateful rhetoric against the Jewish community. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/21/u...

No one experiencing the tragedy of a miscarriage should be arrested, much less abandoned in jail for 5 months with a $100k bond. But that’s exactly what happened to Mallori Patrice Strait in Texas. Women, particularly women of color, in this country are no longer allowed dignity even in extreme loss

covid threw into high relief how many working class people are absolutely necessary to keeping society functional, and rather than that sparking a renewed commitment to an economy that rewards such workers, we've seen an elite backlash against even modest increases in their market power

Countries across the West are self immolating in response to *checks notes* being asked to embody the values they espouse.

😳

I live with two baseball nerds! 😲 With encouragement from his dad, the 14yr old just spent 45mins during dinner telling me about #mookiebetts baseball statistics. Today I learned of the WAR - wins above replacement, DRS - defensive runs saved +++ I now have numbers 4 appreciating #mookie 😳🤣

📸 #Ecologists & #environmental #scientists gathered at the ANDINA workshop in the Conguillío National Park (Chile) last year to discuss the roles, obligations & accountability of professionals in this field amidst the #environmental crises. 🔓 Workshop Report: doi.org/10.3897/rio.....

Can’t believe I have people in my mentions actually arguing that cuts to science funding are the same as dropping bombs on kids You know how one is reversible and the other is not? That’s how the fuck they are different you dipshits

something to be said about how these people view americans as inputs to be used up by capital

Rep. Julie Johnson to Noem: "Are you aware that ICE agent jackets are available on Etsy for $20? Anybody can throw a mask on and run around and terrorize people of color without any regard for the law because your agency does not have proper protocols to make sure your agents are clearly identified"

Please read this principled and beautiful refusal to become complicit “in systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging” from @alondra.bsky.social time.com/7285045/resi...

Book bans are silencing more than just stories. They’re hurting authors, readers, and our right to access a deep variety of voices. Learn how consumer activism—through reviews, purchases, and donations—is a powerful tool to resist censorship. www.freedomtoreadproject.org/consumer_act...

“We should practice close reading because it is good to read for truth and beauty, and even better without the pressure to instrumentalize this goal for economic ends—a criterion, even a paragon, of human flourishing” www.thenation.com/article/soci...

"For me, the answer now lies in refusal, the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging." Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council. I wrote about my decision in TIME. time.com/7285045/resi...

If you live in NYC and you are a library patron, you really, really, really need to take an active role in making sure they are adequately funded. And I am very sorry to say that not enough of us are taking the needed action.

Never thought I’d hear this word combination coming from the kiddo: “productive hating.” 😭🤣

🎶Black black roses in my garden! To keep and care it you got to water it Got to keep the earth so cool 'Cause something special is in my garden🎶

Just finished The Changeling by Victor LaValle. I’ve been on a LaValle kick for a minute and this is my fourth in a couple of months. For the first time, I am satisfied with the ending LaValle wrote.😁 *image from Deadline

Aux États-Unis, « constitutional crisis » is the new « bah oui c’est du fascisme mais comme on ne peut pas y faire grand chose on va appeler ça une crise constitutionnelle, la pilule sera plus simple à avaler » 🙃

Happy Mother’s Day!

$3.3 billion for the best postal service in the world? what a bargain, we pay $47 billion just to raytheon

DEI is weak reform, not radical change and even that was too much for some people.

Defunding science doesn’t just slow research—it shuts doors. I now have limited access to papers and can’t even run a systematic review with Scopus or Web of Science. This is how scientific inequality deepens. I’m lucky to have links to German institutions, but many brilliant colleagues here don’t.

This is terrible and I really wish scientists had heeded the warnings from colleagues in the liberal arts

Two headlines in the New York Times today.

The report is out! See what we did at the last ANDINA workshop in PN Conguillío last year to answer: How can ecologists respond to today’s environmental crises? 🤝 Emphasis on collaboration with Indigenous Peoples & local communities. 🔗 Read more: riojournal.com/article/1528...

REQUIRED repost 🫶🏾

eight years ago today we all watched the glory of zendaya falling madly in love with tom holland and the internet was never the same

This is so loud!

I feel like we've been saying this forever but it's worth saying again. Book bans do not exist in a vacuum. They're not one off events. Book bans are the canary in the coal mine. They usher in an era of censorship, fascism, violent scapegoating. Authors, join the fight: @authorsabb.bsky.social!!

What can be the role of ecological and environmental science professionals and their responsibilities towards society? Be part of the conversation.

It's been 8 years since the iconic moment Tom Holland lip-synced "Umbrella" by Rihanna for Zendaya. 🎥

People rely on federal science data, even if they don't know it. www.npr.org/2025/05/06/n...

I must stress also the folly of treating this as ANY form of "marketplace of ideas" debate. Because RFK Jr. already lost that debate. Andrew Wakefield, his buddy, already lost that debate. Decades ago, at this point. And instead of admitting defeat, they turned over the game board.
