"We're not saying you can't get health care because you're transgender, which would be illegal. We're just saying we refuse to treat the conditions that cause you to be transgender. That's different and okay." A pathetic, indefensible logical pretzel from SCOTUS

New post by Rekha Basu: A new law signed by Iowa’s first female governor will make it illegal for cities to intentionally recruit, hire, or retain female police officers. Des Moines has paid millions to settle sex discrimination lawsuits. www.bleedingheartland.com/2025/06/18/i...

We adopted a dog and also held a birthday party for my youngest over the past couple of days. Right now, terrible people are causing enormous pain out of greed, spite, ignorance, and hateful ideology. But there are moments of joy. The world's less grim when you watch your kids cuddle a dog.

That’s a tough question. Resisting masked armed thugs in any circumstance can get you beaten or killed by the armed thugs. If the masked armed thugs are agents of the U.S. government it will also get you prosecuted for “assault on a federal officer” or “resisting arrest.” /1

If you’re looking for the Free Speech Absolutists, they’re busy being totally cool with the arrest of a city leader asking masked police for a warrant

Read this report.

WE HAVE QUESTIONS… This is a kidnapping. No uniform, no badge, civilian car. Who are they? ICE? Sanctioned bounty hunters? Either way, they’re grabbing people without warrants. How often is this happening, and why aren’t more people talking about it? Congress?

This appears to be Border Patrol rather than ICE (important for trying locate and free his friend as soon as possible) bsky.app/profile/lata...

Border patrol arrests U.S. citizen, falsely accuses of assaulting officer (per eyewitnesses/video), now in custody where lawyer can’t find him. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/15/u...

when 4-5M people march peacefully against the current regime it's the story of the year. NYT cannot bring itself to focus on that reality.

Nobody is rioting. Nobody is breaking any laws. These are cops in my city of Las Vegas just assaulting and arresting anyone on Fremont Street who looks at them. This is fascism.

The radicalization of the American right is THE story of US politics over the last four decades and political reporters are still not allowed to talk about it

Thread from Rep Jimmy Gomez on the bleak and illegal circumstances surrounding the detainees at the Metropolitan Detention Center

I love that a politician can say something like “I believe mice naturally spawn out of grain” and the news will now just treat that as a legitimate line of thought

Why, it contains no king.

Massive #NoKings march in New York City!

RFK Jr now going after ALL vaccines. He argues that the Covid vaccine (which he’s restricted) was the only one that had proper safety testing. He says they “dysregulate the immune system”. Get your boosters. He’s setting the stage for “natural immunity” where only “the strong survive” Eugenics.

Sen. Alex Padilla, who was just forcibly removed from a DHS press conference, is the ranking member of Judiciary’s subcommittee on immigration, citizenship, and border safety, which has “oversight of federal agencies with citizenship, asylum, refugee, and immigration enforcement responsibilities.”

#NoKing protest in Des Moines

🚨NEW: @cbsnews.com reports ICE is arresting people who can't even legally be deported and holding them without enough food or water in a federal building BASEMENT in Los Angeles. Families dutifully attending check-ins with ICE are being arrested and held for days, forced to sleep on the floor.

LAPD fired rubber bullets at Australian journalist @laurentomasi.bsky.social

We're not even in this picture -- there were tons of us to the right and left, as there's room to spread out. Des Moines turned OUT for No Kings. ... didn't see ANY media presence. The Des Moines Register, KCCI, WHO, WOI, and even the Capital Dispatch seem to have skipped it.

#nokings Des Moines

#NoKings #DesMoines

The first person arrested by the Marines is an Army veteran who was on his way to work at the Veterans Administration. It appears he was arrested for crossing a yellow line which the Marines did not realize was not designed to exclude federal employees from reporting to work.

Just got back from the Des Moines #nokings protest (elderly mom and kids couldn't stay there til 2pm). Huge crowd, friendly people, everyone very peaceable, but goddamn that sun is a killer. Woowwweee it is broiling out there. To the two ladies giving out cold waters: I love you (platonically).

Jesus. The juxtaposition of these two posts back to back is just...

It is difficult to imagine any circumstances in which the assassination of one democratic lawmaker and the attempted assassination of another is not fascist violence, calculated to suppress political resistance to a fascist project. At this point I am not going to try.

I'm praying for ICE agents today. May they not know a moment's peace until they quit, and seek amends. May their children revile them. May their parents regret them. May they know they deserve the hatred and distrust of their countrymen. And may all their tomatoes be underripe and flavorless.

<thread> On the left: June 12, Judge Breyer writing that THE test for whether the US Marines/Guard violate Posse Comitatus will be whether they've engaged in "detaining" civilians. On the right: June 13: See for yourself. Note: The DoD has confirmed the detention of civilian to Reuters.

NEW: As a result of my story, a lawyer from the lawsuit—the settlement of which resulted in the now-rescinded ICE warrantless arrest accountability policy—has filed notice for judge to urgently “resolve the pending motions regarding enforcement and extension of the consent decree.”

New Yorkers scream out each officer’s lawsuits against them for excessive force and more upon their city, right to their faces while protesting.
