The recall against Supervisor Engardio — a superb public servant — isn’t just about the recall or Great Highway. It’s also an attack on SF’s ability to end our severe housing shortage, improve transit & make our streets safer. The recall leader, Aaron Peskin, has morphed it into a NIMBY campaign.

A leading candidate for New York City mayor wants free local bus fares. But studies have repeatedly shown that any money you spent on that would be more productively spent on better service. 1/ www.cityandstateny.com/politics/202...

Not to mention the boundaries of this curfew zone is the most LA/carbrained thing ever.

Over at the other side I had a thread with arguments and examples of why ‘free’ public transport is a bad idea. I considered copying it here, but alas no need, as @humantransit.bsky.social explains it brilliantly here 👇🏻

once again los angeles has imposed a curfew in an area and made it impossible to leave that area without a car

This makes me incandescent with rage @reptedlieu.bsky.social @schiff.senate.gov @padilla.senate.gov We need to see you out there protecting our workers, our communities

Hey, I'm in the news www.latimes.com/california/l...

JUST IN: Two ballot measures to protect public libraries from the conservative city council in Huntington Beach are both ahead by very wide margins. Measure to repeal a 'book review committee' up 61/39. Measure to bar privatization up 63/37. That's already with 51K+ ballots counted. Context:

We feed you. They hunt us.

Absolutely begging for some Midwest politicians to seriously grapple with the growing mountain of data showing biofuels have been a disaster for land, water, climate, and rural economies. Some brave soul ready to go beyond the rote boosterism of “Yay corn and soybeans! We’re feeding the world!”

If you want to fight fascism, stand in solidarity with disabled people. Wear a mask (ideally N95). Call elected officials and speak out against mask bans, vaccine restrictions & public health cuts. The Nazis started with us because they knew no one would fight for us. Don’t let it happen again.

New research from my colleagues out today looking at the environmental and social impacts of food crop-based biofuels in the US, where we now use >30% of the corn supply and >40% of the soybean oil supply (on tens of millions of acres of prime cropland) to produce only ~6% of US transport fuel. 🧪

Amazing how hard it is to write: “Police shoot at journalists.”

The Mayor of LA has issued a curfew tonight — not because the citizens are out of control BUT BECAUSE THE PRESIDENT IS.

“His goal is to eliminate incentives to develop vaccines.” www.wsj.com/opinion/rfk-...

You have no obligation to defend or explain the behavior of random street protesters. We have a lawless government that is flagrantly violating its legal, moral, even philosophical obligations to us. Everything else is secondary

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence. They are in charge.

So all of Downtown Los Angeles is now under curfew from 8pm to 6am. As a resident, I'm somehow exempt though I don't know how I'm supposed to prove it. Despite that, I'm going to get a beer at 8:30 wherever is open because I refuse to modify my life to support Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

As of 2 pm, Foothill Transit has again given up on serving the City of Los Angeles, even to Cal State LA miles away from the protests and where summer session is ongoing.

Just saw Keri's reel about this and came here to boost. So useful. True service journalism.

We’re in questionable legal territory again — CHP has blocked both ends of Commerical between Alameda and Garey adjacent to the 101. No dispersal order or arrests, but there is media stuck in the area they’ve blocked off.

Wisest choice for Americans, go anywhere else but DC, en masse & upstage him. Hit him where it hurts. Ratings & news coverage 👍

Reading Everything I learned, I learned in a Chinese restaurant by @curtischin.bsky.social and finding out his mom got a bus lane on Cass Ave removed to preserve car parking 😱😡🤮

"The time has come to recognize whales not merely as resources but as sentient beings with inherent rights." The rights-of-nature movement is fascinating--and perhaps game-changing. insideclimatenews.org/news/1006202...

This is why *none* of his nominees should have been approved by Dem senators. An absolute abomination.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

All of L.A. is not a ‘war zone.’ We separate facts from spin and disinformation amid immigration raids, protests throughout the city. Latest w/ @karenmg.bsky.social @tarantulaarms.bsky.social www.latimes.com/california/s...

Trump, talking at Fort Bragg right now about Los Angeles, is doing something I'm not sure I've ever seen a president do: he's actively maligning people in Los Angeles — an American city — in front of U.S. troops. And the troops are applauding. As an Army brat myself, this strikes me as very new.
