What kind of world do we want to live in? A world that simply takes care of sick people? Or a world that exploits sick people for maximum profits?

Do we want to live in a world that cares about childhood development? Or a world that doesn't care about nurturing children? We have known since Freud that childhood shapes adults, and yet capitalism glorifies profits over development.

Do we want to live in a world that cares about human wellbeing? Or a world that cares about mindless consumption? Assuming we desire the former over the latter, perhaps we should invest in financial security, food security, health security and education security.

Human intelligence is amazing because it is rational and emotional, factual and fictional, sceptical and superstitious, passionate and apathetic, prejudices and impartial. It is all these things and more, much more.

Enlightened cultures study the underlying causes of poverty, hunger and homelessness as well as possible solutions so society can solve poverty. Benighted cultures blame babies for being born to poor parents and blame the parents for being lazy.

It takes greater emotional intelligence and social intelligence to befriend someone than is necessary to bully them. To bully them, you need only find a weakness, real or imagined, and remind them daily. To befriend them, you need to listen to them and understand them.

Good leaders respect the law even if it is wrong because if a law is wrong, there are lawful ways to change it. Bad leaders believe they are above the law so they are free to do as they please.

Do we want to live in a society that cares about our happiness? Or a world that is content with our misery? If we desire the former, perhaps we should listen to positive psychologists instead of bombastic preachers and politicians.

Do we want a world ruled by profits and greed? Or a world governed by empathy for our fellow human beings? A world ruled by self interest the biological default. A world governed by empathy is the evolutionary pinnacle.

Enlightened minds recognize every human from the humblest to the haughtiest has pearls of wisdom they are willing to share with those who listen. Benighted minds believe their tribe is super intelligent while all others are obviously clueless.

Human intelligence has taken us from gathering kindling for tribal campfires to watching programs that envelop us. It hast taken us from using drums and smoke to communicate with neighbouring tribes to conversing with family and friends across the Internet

Human intelligence has taken us from roaming the African plains to walking on the moon. It has taken us from sheltering in caves as storms rage by to watching storms rage by as we sip wine on the eightieth floor

Human intelligence is amazing because it has introduced me to critical and creative thinking, the challenge and satisfaction of logical, rational thinking as well as the joy and sorrow of reimagining paperclips as sentient lamp posts.

Enlightened minds admit they know only 1% of the entire universe of knowledge, meaning they have much to learn. Unenlightened minds believe they learned everything worth learning before puberty, so they need not learn anything.

Great leaders leave the world a better place for everyone, especially the poorest and most vulnerable. Bad leaders leave the world a better place for richest and most powerful, not for the poorest and most vulnerable who get blamed for the world's ills.

Do we want to live in a world dedicated to human flourishing? Or a world that doesn't care if people flounder? If we desire the former, we need to listen to scientists and philosophers, not the world's greatest businessmen.

Small minds blame others for problems, which may be true, whereas great minds solve problems instead of blaming anybody because addressing the problem is the greater cognitive challenge and great minds love a genuine cerebral challenge.
