In my opinion, Trump's shift on this issue ("stop raiding farms and hotels") demonstrates the US needs to have an honest conversation about the role of undocumented immigrants in this country. And who constitutes this population. I'm afraid the rhetoric has already poisoned the well.

In my car at the Park Run delaying my reporting to the start. It’s 3° here Joburg mornings are crisp

“Entirely” would be a stretch. There is an adjacency

Deep Blue is 30 years old and was capable of defeating chess grand champions. It could be housed in a single cabinet. ChatGPT spans untold data centers devouring massive amounts of electricity and it got its ass whipped by an 8 bit gaming console from the 1970s.

The thing about human rights is that they belong to every single human being unconditionally

this is correct, but some questions that might be asked in response to this state of play: what is the value of "reach"? can something be good and useful if it reaches a smaller audience, or do we believe that scale is always and everywhere the goal? Has scaling to the highest reach served us well?

Anti-ICE protest happening now in San Francisco. “No ICE, no KKK, no fascist USA.”

BREAKING: NYPD and ICE mistakenly arrested a Chilean woman who was on vacation in New York City, leaving her 12-year-old daughter on the street alone. This is what happens when you embolden ICE to act with zero oversight. Trump’s America.

Men are apt to mistake the strength of their feeling for the strength of their argument. The heated mind resents the chill touch and relentless scrutiny of logic. William E. Gladstone

South Africa loves rugby union like no other nation! A big rugby match ends on TV, we show it again straight after! Double jeopardy! 🏉

The 90km Comrades marathon - probably the greatest ultramarathon on earth - takes place in South Africa tomorrow. Here is a powerful movie about the race. I was crying like a Shembe bride! 😭 https://youtu.be/BhYs7l36MSU?si=4JNT6RFu7CnZZs83

FREE ADVICE: so, there's a filmmaking concept called "business." "Business" is, essentially, the stuff your character does while talking. Fixing a car engine, ice skating, eating an ice cream cone, ducking gunfire. You gotta give your characters "business" so they're not just standing there yappin'.

Francesca Albanese— "I call it genocide b/c IT IS genocide. Defined by intent, not by method or means. Visible without magnification—if we look with context, at the victims: what they share is being part of a group, as such. B/c of it, they get killed, tortured, maimed, starved, raped, massacred."

My 3rd book, now published and available at Amazon and elsewhere. Some additional details, such as the index and comments from the forewords below. How we deal with the conflicts in our cities in the next year or two will determine much of the trajectories of our country

We Built This City is a limited series of photo essays by The Continent on African cities. This week, we are in Lilongwe with James Jamu.

Still thinking of last Saturday when I said my poem and the who bar kept quiet the whole time. Then I played a song on guitar and it sounded like four auctions happening at once 😂

South Africa has been through something like what the US faces, you know. State capture, we called it. Like getting cancer, it’s not very easy to recover from, and it’s debatable whether you ever really do.

If white people across the country started singing “Free Palestine” to the tune of “Sweet Caroline” when a little drunk this summer at their white people bars in their little polos and $70 flip flops I think the worst “journalists” in the world would actually implode

This is outrageous!

I got this book back. Definitely the last one!

To be clear, it doesn’t make you a visionary or genius to want to discard the incredibly complex and special planet we have, in favour of a staggeringly less habitable planet that only the mega-rich could hope to get to. It takes a superhuman level of lazy, toddler-like selfishness and squandering.
