Pedestrians, transit users and cyclists will no longer give their own lives and health up to support shorter journey times for frustrated suburban car commuters. Correspondence circulated to the Mayor and Council yesterday docs.google.com/document/d/1...

At what point I wonder do AAA connections from the peninsula to Spryfield, Clayton Park, Bedford, become more “worth it” than the minimum grid*

These streets are currently 4-5 cars wide for 2 lanes of traffic, and ideal for AT infrastructure upgrades

In 2018 we adopted Vision Zero. Though the term "Vision Zero" is still used, we dropped it in 2024, by councillor vote. There is no goal to achieve zero fatalities in HRM. Arterials like Quinpool don't do their job because of this. www.ctvnews.ca/atlantic/nov...

On the radio today, the mayor said that his anti-bike lane motion reflected the wishes of "the majority" of residents. This contradicts the municipality's own 2024 Resident Survey, in which 65% of respondents expressed support for maintaining or increasing bike lane service levels. (1/3) #BikeHfx

Two patio beverages of your choice to any Halifax journalist who asks Andy Fillmore the following: 1) Whether he really only read the IMP for the first time last week 2) How he came to change his mind on active transportation from his well-documented previous position to his current one

never mind the ableist bullshit, bikes are mobility aids never mind that “not being afraid” is a direct consequence of the city’s planning (and the mayor inflaming anti-bike sentiment)

the more sprawling your municipality, the more you can jack the stats on bike commuting

Attention #BikeHfx, this Urban Arrow is now reduced to $4000. If you ever wanted a Bakfiets-style bike, now’s the time to test ride one. The bike is worth $10,000 new, but this bike shop doesn’t seem to know how to sell it and just keeps reducing the price.

Those North street bike lanes.

our mayor has a brutal case of carbrain

local street bikeways having stop signs every block while cross streets do not is not only inconvenient, it’s dangerous.

Newsroom is aware of a collision that resulted in injuries to a cyclist last night at Creighton/Buddy Daye. Will share whatever info we get from Halifax Regional Police here. #halifax #bikehfx

Lower Water St. (see google street view) became one way for a bike lane sometime between 2009 and 2012. That's 13+ years ago! Why is traffic now just getting bad? Why didn't it get bad in 2012? Could it be that there were fewer cars in 2012?

I had the brief, unpleasant experience of carpooling with someone who hates cyclists. It eventually emerged that she resented how they passed her when she was stuck in traffic and usually appeared to be enjoying their commutes. I suspect many of Mayor Andy's supporters feel similarly.

Mayor Fillmore: "It’s unfortunate the internet got involved this weekend. A group of people were unnecessarily inflamed." Like cyclists, who are commonly othered due to motonormativity, "the Internet" and "a group of people" are all Halifax citizens – neighbours, friends, family.

It’s really interesting how Fillmore bemoaned “the internet” getting involved in yesterday’s motion, casting cycling advocates as “inflamed.” I’m wondering how he would describe supporters of this motion calling for people on bikes to be run off the road? Advocates of good governance?

It’s clear Fillmore does not like the spotlight when it’s not in his control.
