As one MP said: “One of our greatest industrial sectors is on fire and ministers are having a picnic on the lawn with the arsonists.” www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Morelle speculated that there was "surely no coincidence he acted less than a day after she refused to rubber-stamp Elon Musk's efforts to mine troves of copyrighted works to train AI models," in reference to the report released by the Copyright Office this week. www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-f...

The most powerful man in the world’s response to the escalating tension between India and Pakistan: “Those two countries have been fighting for centuries.” Pakistan was founded in 1947. Pay attention in your history classes kids

Sarah Glennane and James Morris from SCGI along with @helienne.bsky.social president of @ecsa.bsky.social met with Niamh Smyth TD, Minister of State in Department of Enterprise yesterday to discuss our deep concerns around music creators rights and generative AI platforms

Thanks for having me @screencomposersirl.bsky.social

In a court filing today, Google says "absent protection for intellectual property, there exists little reason to invest in developing software". Yet they lobby governments to weaken IP law to allow unlicensed AI training on copyrighted work. ??

Gone is “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” Maya Angelou’s transformative best-selling 1970 memoir chronicling her struggles with racism and trauma. Two copies of “Mein Kampf” by Adolf Hitler are still on the shelves. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/11/u...

Organizations representing millions of creators & rights holders have said the EU’s Code of Practice on AI is “completely unacceptable.” The Code of Practice outlines how the AI Act should be implemented. But creators reject it because: 🧵

The UK Parliament’s Culture, Media & Sport Committee sent a strong message to the government on AI training today: “The Government should abandon its preference for a data mining exception for AI training with rights reservation model…” 🧵

Tech execs declaring all-out war on creators who don’t want their life’s work pillaged for profit

Jack’s justification for wanting to “delete all IP law”. No mention of what these better models for compensating creators are, or that creators *overwhelmingly* support copyright law. Also copyright is not rent-seeking, it is an incentive to create.

All I can say is, this is Liz Truss economics on steroids

Tesla sales in Sweden are down by 63%. Folksam, one of Sweden’s biggest insurance companies just sold their stocks in Tesla as Tesla’s union-busting behaviour did not align with Folksam’s ethics

Pardons for people who attack police officers. Deportation for people who attack cars.

Spot on thread by @ednewtonrex.bsky.social on all the wildly misleading claims Peter Kyle made about copyright law and AI in this podcast 👇🏼

Shame, shame, shame on them!

BREAKING: The DOJ has informed European officials that the U.S. is withdrawing from a multinational group established to investigate war crimes in Ukraine and hold those responsible accountable, including Putin, The NYT reports. The US can no longer claim to be the leader of the free world

This actually hits hard because it's my story. My grandparents were forced to leave Europe during WW2 and were denied entry in the U.S, that's how we ended up in Brazil. Now, as an infectious disease researcher, I feel forced to leave again. When politics gets in the way of scientific progress...

This is hideous. And close to inexplicable unless Trump is doing what Putin tells him to.

Our actual enemies *and* the BBC’s commercial rivals hate everything that makes it important & valuable. (And they don’t help themselves much these days in all sorts of ways.) But this is a crucial test of the current government’s resolve.

New plan - we cringe ourselves to Mars

Can you believe Spotify are hosting this “course”? Would hosting this be a breach of the UK’s Online Safety act? Shockingly there’s no way to report this on the Spotify app?!? Source : www.linkedin.com/posts/eloisa...

Pretty much sums it up

Trump’s Ukraine aid numbers seem to be pulled out of thin air. They’re both reversed (Europe has spent more than the US) and wildly incorrect (nobody is giving anywhere near $350B). My @morningjoe-msnbc.bsky.social Chart

Another mad element of that press conference is that Trump & Vance were ordering Zelensky to thank them personally for aid that Joe Biden had provided. All while insulting Biden & ignoring Zelensky’s frequent previous expressions of gratitude.

“If British music is one of the most powerful exports we have, why have you treated it like an after thought for so many years?" — Myles Smith at the #BRITs The line about grassroots venues was spot on!

Two men operating in two different worlds: Raising his voice, the US president said: “You’re not in a good position. You don’t have the cards right now.” Zelenskyy responded: “I’m not playing cards. I’m very serious, Mr President. I’m the president in a war.” www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

First Bezos muzzles op-ed writers at the Washington Post, now this! Amazon partners with AI music company Suno (currently sued for copyright infringement) for new functionality in Alexa+, allowing users to generate AI songs on command using voice prompts. www.digitalmusicnews.com/2025/02/27/a...

It must surely be unprecedented that all these publications would agree on the same message on their front pages. I sure hope the government takes note

All profits are going to the musicians' charity Help Musicians. Listen to the album here: open.spotify.com/album/1yUbRS... Please listen and share! Artists & groups involved include Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Damon Albarn, Yusuf / Cat Stevens,Tori Amos, Hans Zimmer, James MacMillan, Max Richter

I'm one of 1,000+ musicians who are jointly releasing this album today to protest the UK government's planned changes to copyright law, which would hand the life's work of the country's musicians to AI companies for free. Don't legalise music theft! isthiswhatwewant.com

Tonight I will listen to the almost unbearably beautiful The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. Rest in power Roberta Flack 🙏🏼💜
