Catch me tonight at 10:15 ET on @wclivestream.bsky.social to get the low down on weather measurements up high and learn more about weather balloons and why they're so valuable!

Do you know about the Argo Array? I had no idea. As a US Taxpayer I pay about 5¢ a year to maintain 4000 ocean robots collecting and sharing data with the world. What a bargain! So much more to learn at the 100 hour Weather & Climate Livestream. wclivestream.com

The National Weather Service costs every American a 🍔 and a 🥤per year: listen to what former director Joe Friday has to say about the NWS, and tune in as we enter the 24th hour of the Weather & Climate Livestream! wclivestream.com/watch

Don't miss Adam's talk tonight! See the rest of our stacked primetime talk schedule here: wclivestream.com/schedule/ And tune in at any time of the day or night for a variety of excellent science talks!

To our Weather & Climate Livestream viewers, we want to know: What was your favorite thing you learned during Day 1 of our 💯 hour livestream to #SaveAmericasForecasts? wclivestream.com/watch/

Thank you for the boost @hankgreen.bsky.social–it's been a blast so far! And thank you to the 2000+ viewers who listened to the science talks and asked really insightful questions!

Question from a livestream viewer: “How many lives are collectively impacted by [NOAA's] monitoring and rapid response work.” John Cortinas: “I don’t have any exact numbers, but I would probably start by saying the entire population of the United States…"

We're averaging almost 700 live viewers in hour 2/💯! Imagine AGU, but live-streamed for free around the world and non-stop for 💯 hours straight!

feeling toasty? @ccivanovich.bsky.social is about to talk heat waves and stickiness on the 100-hour @wclivestream.bsky.social wclivestream.com/watch

We're live!!! Tune in for hour 1/💯

Join us tomorrow, starting at 10am PT tomorrow, Wednesday May 28th, for 💯 hours of non-stop weather and climate science! I'll be hosting for a stacked line-up of keynote speakers live from 4pm-8pm PT! Check out the keynote schedule here: wclivestream.com

oh boy, this is really happening. 100+ hours, 200+ climate and weather scientists. starts tomorrow: wclivestream.com/watch

Our schedule is almost full 🎉, but we could still use US-based meteorologists and climate scientists to speak in the overnight period on late Friday/early Saturday and late Saturday/early Sunday. If you're a night owl, or living in Alaska or Hawaii, we'd love to have you! wclivestream.com/speakers/

Before high-tech climate monitoring tools, there were glass flasks! In the 1950s, Charles David Keeling cracked the code to measuring #CO2 in the atmosphere, later becoming known as the @keelingcurve.bsky.social. Read about the history from @smithsonianmag.bsky.social.

Our schedule is filling up 🎉, but we're still looking for US-based meteorlogists and climate scientists to speak, especially people who can talk on Sunday June 1st, or any night during the 2-7am ET/11pm-4am PT window between May 28th and June 1st. Learn more here: wclivestream.com/speakers

By @alejandrabee.bsky.social The House and Senate both voted to loosen regulations on air pollutants like dioxin and mercury, which are associated with higher cancer risk.

Hi everyone, As you know, there are now many initiatives being offered by other countries to support US researchers whose funding has been pulled or threatened. Here is my attempt to gather the relevant information about all of these efforts in one place. Please share. jmlilly.net/blog/2025/05...

Mark your calendars: starting 5/28, join us at wclivestream.com/watch as we kick off 💯 hours of meteorology and climate science, all with one goal: save America's forecasts! Whether it's tomorrow's rain, or the coastline in fifty years, our speakers want to keep helping you plan for your futures.

This event is going to be a wonderful celebration of Weather & Climate Science (and the government agencies and funding programs that support it). You don't want to miss out! Either follow along on Youtube (www.youtube.com/@wclivestream) or sign up to help us make it to all the way to 💯 hours!

Are you a US-based meteorologist or climate scientist who has been supported by federal funds at some point in your career? We're still looking for speakers for the Weather & Climate Livestream, but sign up soon - only nights and weekend slots remain! wclivestream.com/speakers/

Can AI weather models predict out-of-distribution gray swan extremes? We report @pnas.org that the answer is NO for global gray swans, YES for regional ones: AI models can't extrapolate from weaker events but can learn from similar events in other regions during training! doi.org/10.1073/pnas...

📢 URGENT: Graphic designer needed to design materials for our public event opposing federal budget cuts to weather/climate research. The event is only a week away! Details of the event at wclivestream.com DM if interested or tag someone who might be!

Just eleven days left until our 💯-hour livestream! We're halfway to our speaker sign up goal, so if you're a meteorologist or climate scientist who's ever been US govt funded, come share your work with the public, and show them why our science is worth saving. Sign up today! wclivestream.com

Of course I worry about speaking up, but I worry more about what will happen if none of us does.

Heads up on this vital 100 hour streaming marathon on the value of weather and climate expertise as National Weather Service struggles with staff shortages and reduction in service www.forbes.com/sites/marsha...

Ever wonder what's actually in wildfire smoke? Beyond the flames, it brings toxic haze and dangerous air. We break down what’s in the smoke and how it affects our health. Read more: www.climate.gov/news-feature...

🌊 To those in the oceans, weather, and climate community, please sign-up to present or volunteer as a community organizer/moderator for our upcoming Weather & Climate Livestream!

Calling all US meteorologists and climate scientists! Come speak at the 🌊 Weather & Climate Livestream 🌪️. Starting May 28th, we will be having a marathon livestream to share our work with the public, and show why the vital services we provide should not be cut.

It's remarkable how well these early projections hold up. You might say they got lucky, in that they left out many compensating biases. Or you might say they were geniuses well ahead of their time who included all of the most important processes (Planck, lapse rate, and water vapor feedbacks, etc).

Tied into this history of the AIS is the breakthrough of numerical weather forecasting, led by von Neumann, Rossby, and Charney. It's no coincidence that NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory moved across the river and shortly thereafter created the world's first global climate models.

🚨New Paper! Led by Joey Bisits, with @janzika.bsky.social, we explore the drivers of cabelling instability in the ocean using a first-of-its-kind turbulence-resolving simulation. See here for energy budgets, diffusion calcs and pretty pictures using Oceananigans: doi.org/10.1017/jfm....
