Boundless idiocy.

Bibliographies of Feng Menglong's Sanyan stories and Ling Mengchu's Erpai stories are now on the Ming History English Translation Project. Hope it's of use for historians of Chinese literature! Courtesy of Dylan K. Wang (SOAS).

Wait, I thought he said it was foreign countries that paid the tariffs?

Can you imagine if the Dems narrowly won the House? They would have lost their majority simply by virtue of older members dying. What's so controversial about electing younger members?

Anyone going to be at AHA next year?

A very stable genius: #Winning

A new episode of the Chinese History Podcast is out! In this companion episode to my interview with Scott Pearce, I interview Andrew Chittick about the Southern Dynasties and their place in Chinese History. #🀄📚 #sinology #chinesehistory #china #history

I wish people would stop parroting nonsense news they see on X...the delegations literally left for lunch after two hours of meetings and this picture is of the Chinese delegations leaving their hotel for the meeting 🤦🏻

Hmmm 🤔

Finished my class on War and Culture in Premodern China class and got this Lego soldier from my student as a gift 😂

Can't wait for the Uncommitted and Abandon Harris people to tell me this was all Biden and Harris's fault. Oh wait these people all went into hiding 🤷🏻

Headline says it all.

While some products like cars and mattresses are still made in the US, China basically makes most consumer goods we buy in the US, including kitchen appliances, electronics, and personal care items. Things are gonna suck because of Trump's stupid tariffs.

I decided to make the syllabus for my upcoming course "The Ancient World in Video Games" public and downloadable on my old blog. Some thoughts about course design sprinkled here and there. Let me know if you find it useful or interesting! anotherclassicsblog.wordpress.com/2025/04/23/s...

I've never seen so many people on Reddit cheering on China for taking on Trump 😂

1) China starts manufacturing something way better and cheaper than US 2) US politicians figure it out 10 years later and call it unfair 3) slap a bunch of fees and tariffs on it 4) it's too late The US will price themselves out of the global economy at this point

So much for his "spine of steel"

Tariffs, no tariffs, super tariffs, pause tariffs, tariffs back on, some tariffs, bonus tariffs, some stuff not tariffed, more tariffs

We have massive Financial Deficits with Xiongnu, Goguryeo, and many others. The only way this problem can be cured it with TRIBUTE MISSIONS, which are now bringing Ten of Billions of Cash-Coins into QIN. They are already in effect, and a beautiful thing to behold...

Art of the Deal, everyone!

This is insane. All our Chinese citizen colleagues in Florida are apparently at risk of losing their jobs solely on the basis of their nationality

The 奉國寺 in Yi County, Jinzhou is the largest wooden building dating from the Liao period (constructed in 1004) in China. Inside are seven massive Buddha statues. It has been rebuilt in Yuan, late Ming, and Qing.

Passed by this random village and saw a shrine with a large stele. Decided to check it out on map and saw it's called 葛王存. Googled 葛王 and realized it was a Jurchen Jin nobility title. Really makes you wonder about the history of this village.

I find the squat toilets in Asia to be infinitely more hygienic than the seated toilets of the West 😂

Chinese village names are so interesting and can tell you a lot of things. It's clear this village was once a Ming weisuo installation, with a commander surnamed Han in charge. The village is named after the military camp.

Every single Didi and taxi in China has an intense smoke of cigarettes....

Now I can say I've been to the Grand Canal....the ultimate 打卡 of the Hangzhou trip 😂

Cool (free) little museum tucked away in Hangzhou...the archeological finds of the Southern Song Imperial Avenue 御道 and remains of former govt offices #📚🀄 #chinesehistory #history #sinology #archeology

Knew this was coming...largest employer in California and the largest university system in the US just announced a hiring freeze...

Well my work visa was just approved so I'll formally announce it (though everyone seems to know already 😂) - I will be joining the Hong Kong Baptist University in the summer as an Assistant Professor of Chinese History! Excited to be going back to Hong Kong again!
