Is this real? I have literally never seen such bad polling for an action.

We were very happy to give this scoop to @marisakabas.bsky.social's The Handbasket because it is important to support independent journalists who are doing the hard work at this time. Giving this story to Marisa also guarantees it will be in The Washington Post verbatim exactly 48 hours later.

We've been busy giving love to the hard work of our Park Rangers. All our NPS sites are indispensable.

I was just saying this to others yesterday.

It's devastating how many posts I am seeing of dedicated, skilled #publichistorians losing of their jobs under the guise of cost savings. These decisions are short-sighted & I will continue to fight them. Please, stay involved. The American people need you. @ncph.bsky.social #publichistory

I just pulled out my copy of Newton's Principia, a book that was originally written in Latin, and noticed that the translation I am using was completed with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, which has basically been destroyed Science depends on the humanities 🧪

Can confirm...it is about the only thing that leaves them speechless.

Sioux Falls Pride happened today and there are some thing to love about my hometown.

Genie: ok what do you want for your birthday Trump: a military parade, oh, and also millions of people on the street chanting my name Genie: okie dokie

One great thing about the small but mighty protest in my very red Appalachian town was the old timers who weren't a part of the protest, but their wives were protesting, and by God, if anyone thought about messing with them, no, they weren't.

I'm not going to lie...I was shocked by the number of seniors at ours. Some did one hour shifts as they tired out, but they were PISSED.

HOW MANY WAYS CAN YOU TAP INTO MY INTERESTS.

Protest went well. Good conversations. No violence. Just one idiot who revved his truck with a huge Confederate flag attached. 🙄

Off to the monthly park protest, which has been relatively peaceful minus a few thrown middle fingers. It has hit local news today, though, so we expect more participants and vitriol. Local social media awash with commenters saying things like "better bring body bags" and "locked and loaded."

GOOD. IT'S GOOD WALZ IS CALLING IT THIS

My God. I am so sorry for her loved ones.

Dear News Networks: The term for a “targeted politically motivated shooting” of a currently serving legislator is “Assassination.”

After federal troops forced a fugitive slave named Anthony Burns back into slavery in the 1850s, one Bostonian wrote, “we went to bed one night old-fashioned, conservative, Compromise Union Whigs and waked up stark mad Abolitionists.” The abuse of power radicalizes people. We are seeing that now.

New hero just dropped.

Mass protests are an implicit threat of potential violence even when they are entirely peaceful. They serve to keep state power in check by demonstrating “there are more of us than you so fix your shit.” The state knows this, which is why its agents often respond to them with unprovoked violence.

I think we need a deeper study of Dolly drag. Mainly after attending Rhinestone Fest in Knoxville (an annual event celebrating all things Dolly Parton). Watching old, young, straight, LGBTQ+ all come together in a public area to watch with no counterprotesters...there is something to be learned.

Remember family hikes, summer camps, and fishing trips? Trump’s budget slashes funding for parks and environmental protections, all to hand billions in tax breaks to the ultra-rich. These aren’t just cuts. They are a betrayal of the places we all love.

The public meltdown happening between the world’s richest man 🙄 and the President of the United States 🙄🙄 once again begs the age-old question: are men simply too emotional to be in positions of power?

The best thing about this moment is that it pretty much destroys any historical narrative that past historical figures must have all been brilliant rational actors in order to be remembered.

Omg, guys, I've been at work all day dealing with grant fallout and I open the app to this. I am buying a bottle of sparkling on my way home and enjoying every minute.

It's the first day of Pride and I am donning my Free Mom Hugs shirt and taking a friend to her first Pride event. Gonna be a good day.

We were told this morning that our raises this year will be determined by an AI-analysis of our performance evaluations, and I may have immediately opened up my resume.

I like that the Tybee Island Marine Center has this as a part of their exhibit educating visitors on a variety of ways to help protect the whale population. Given the current state of...well, everything...I think it worthwhile for all of us to begin taking similar approaches. #MuseumsAreNotNeutral

This, all day every day. Turns out that when people are put in situations where they finally realize people are people, everyone gets a lot more decent.

Remember Punch-Out!! for the NES, where the opposing boxer would flash white for a second before throwing a punch? That’s Trump. And no one can knock out Mr. Sandman like @lizdye.bsky.social

WTF.

I'm at a business conference (reasons), and I just heard the comment that pursuing Hitozukuri and focusing on building up people should be critical to Lean management, and as a humanities major, I am side- eyeing this entire room's profound wonder. We need the humanities, y'all.

The Federation of State Humanities Councils & Oregon Humanities have filed a lawsuit against the termination of NEH grants to the state councils. www.statehumanities.org/federation-o...

I may actually be a bit tired of rain now. It has managed to so consistently soak my roses that it is causing early rot to the petals.

100% this! We totally won over an older woman who was earning her 61st Junior Ranger badge and who walked over to learn more at our park protest. That was literally what swayed her support. She had no idea about the potential cuts, but boy, once she learned, she grabbed a sign and joined in.

My favorite part of every section I ever taught on the 1930s was detailing how unequivocally awful a human being Lindbergh was.

Racist and sexist roots in the cancellation of NSF grants under Trump: Grants with female PIs canceled 2x more than men Grants with Black PIs canceled 4x over White PIs Grants with Hispanic PIs canceled 2x over White PIs Grants with PIs with disabilities canceled 2x more than without

I'll rise again tomorrow, but today's news, the fact my child's classmates turned on him for supporting our local NPS this weekend (elementary age!), and mostly the fact some guy PURPOSEFULLY directed his car to run over the turtle I was about to help cross the road has got me. It's the cruelty.
