Starting with Los Angeles please hurry

50 years ago, they would have called themselves "Rockefeller Republicans" and belonged to the Republican Party

This is an accurate assessment

How can we possibly make it so compelling to find out whether a requested song is yacht rock, or...nyacht? FIND OUT BELOW

The reviews are in!! (I was even later on this)

Belated post of my Beyond Yacht Rock 2000 episode from last week, in which I count down comeback hits from 1962-1972 by pre-rock'n'roll singing stars. Enjoy the highly relatable (to me right now, anyway) Crooner Career Crisis!! open.spotify.com/episode/3vdQ...

Do not trust any of the other geographically nicknamed Steves

Not the "haircut" he most deserves, but it's a start

The entire Confederacy does not deserve ice hockey

Remarkable. MSNC: "I want to reiterate this has been 100% peaceful." Seconds later, LA County sheriffs start firing on the crowd. Yet again, "law enforcement" deliberately escalated.

One good thing about today in Los Angeles is that the mainstream media was onsite *before* the police started rioting. So many news crews saying "the crowd here in LA is totally peaceful" right before LAPD and LA Sheriff started shooting and trampling people

"We're an American Band" by Grand Funk Railroad

If the United States saw what the United States is doing in the United States, the United States would invade the United States to liberate the United States from the tyranny of the United States.

I could not have said this any better

Working on a story about LAPD's tactics and use-of-force during protests in the past week. If you've been out there, or injured by a horse, rubber round, etc., feel free to DM me. Would love to hear about your experience.

And yet, somehow, we will still die before they will

I suspect a downstream effect of everyone in this administration sincerely believing their own propaganda is that they thought LA was entirely effete Hollyweird sickos who would cry about pronouns as opposed to like, rude Chicano teens with full-chest Morrissey tattoos

In case you weren't aware, the greater LA metropolitan area is the size of Portugal and contains 80% more people. They cannot constitutionally do this, but also, they cannot physically do this.

It’s blindingly clear at this point that the protestors in Los Angeles are in fact helping to prevent a fascist takeover, and the pundits who suggested that protest is counterproductive were being either stupid or actively malicious.

. @theglutster.bsky.social breaks down ICE tactics we’ve been noticing lately.

All the people I still know in LA laugh and laugh when they hear that "Los Angeles is burning." I made a couple of maps to show just how tiny and localized the protests are. GOPers are working really hard to make an excuse for declaring martial law. People should be very wary of that.

“there are a few bad actors in LA” oh girl there’s more than a few

we do not need your help www.esquire.com/news-politic...

When he says "huge swaths" of Santa Monica look like "failed third world nations" what he means specifically is that there are brown people out in public

The true patron saint of Los Angeles is the street vendor. They bring delicious treats and increased foot traffic to neighborhoods. There should be murals dedicated to elote vendors and fruit carts.

This is a message to the enemies of immigration enforcement: Gov. Newsom’s fate will be yours should you stand in the way of national purity,” an anonymous plainclothes ICE agent wearing a balaclava theonion.com/ice-rel...

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

I said this on Twitter and I'll say it again: afaik the genre of popular music post–the invention of rock and roll with the most consistent quality control across the spectrum is funk. it is HARD to find a bad funk song from the 1970s.

In the last 20 or so minutes I’ve seen LAPD officers shove women to the ground without provocation, rip a sign out of a man’s hand and then swing a baton into his leg and raise a less-lethal launcher to aim directly at a protester (which I’m 99% is a major policy violation.)

I'm on the phone with the protestors, they hadn't seen your posts and that's why they weren't doing what you told them to, they're fixing it now

Them: “LA is a full on insurrection” Us at the protest:

for context here’s a map of greater Los Angeles and the protest is the roughly the red circle

Another thing to mention for people who don't live in LA. Most of LA is very chill and peaceful right now. There's a huge Pride fest going on, countless farmer's markets, tourists walking around, families at the parks, people walking their dogs. It's a big place.

really proud to live in Los Angeles right now fuck these assholes, this city is great

It pains me to report that right-wingers are discovering the term "shitlib" and, predictably, have no understanding of the context in which this term applies, and think it is just a synonym for "woke (derogatory)"

The spin has already started as if our entire city is in chaos. I went from Burbank all the way over to Koreatown on surface streets tonight and jackshit was happening. The CNN coverage makes it look like world war 3 and that’s what Trump wants so he and his fucking goons can come shoot Angelenos.

Yeah I guess LeBron putting up a 22.6 PER is pretty special, but it's not that impressive when you compare him to people rolling out of bed and firing off something like this at age 86.
