A trip filled with joy & heartache, but mostly joy. 17 days in the UK (technically 19 days away but two all-day travel days), 16 towns, 39 friends. Wish we could have seen all our UK friends. Just heartbroken to miss the one dear friend who had a serious medical incident. But still: grateful.

I didn’t know this was controversial. Even if reading every submission beginning to end was feasible—without ballooning response times on every one to several months, at least—it wouldn’t be useful. You can tell within a few pages, paragraphs, sometimes even sentences if a story is working for you.

We should all treat one another the way some people treat me, knowing I don't have long left. Giving benefit of doubt, letting irritations go, finding ways to be kind unexpectedly, remembering to name the things we love about each other. None of us have forever, and you really do never know when.
