🚨Teacher of History Job Vacancy🚨 at Maiden Erlegh School in Reading. Lovely team & supportive HOD at this school which is part of ⁦the Maiden Erlegh Trust! Brilliant work being done here 👏 #History #Historyteacher #TeachingJobs mynewterm.com/jobs/141886/...

No shade on James, who is just playing the game along with the rest of us, but the fact students need to know all *this* as well as the *history* remains bonkers. They have to spend time doing this sort of nonsense in so many subjects - surely we can examine better?

undefeated

I had one a few weeks back: “This lesson is the most tolerable thing about today.”

My Y13 form last year were vowing to never give their children smartphones- they were so conscious of what had happened to them

One of the sad things about Trump is he won’t live long enough to see the historians really go to town.

Anyone know why Oxford have scrapped the HAT?

A few years ago, I met the incredibly talented Dr Rebecca Struthers - the UK's only watchmaker with a PhD in horology. We immediately hit it off and became friends... and then wrote this book together. Out in August, available to preorder now! geni.us/AboutTimeDK

Come and work with me… Are you interested in moving into higher education and initial teacher training? Do you have experience of teaching humanities (primarily geography & history)? Would you like to work in the South West in a fantastic setting? www.jobs.ac.uk/job/DMY330/l... Repost & share 🙏🏼

So happy that the scholarship of Ruby Lal, Emma Griffin, James Boyce, Vincent Brown and others will shine in this textbook - it was such a pleasure and privilege to work with historians, & the integration of images and text is spellbinding. We’ve gone to press for #ChangingHistoriesKS3 Expanding Worlds! It’ll be hitting our warehouse on 13 June so do get your orders in! In my 10+ years of history publishing, I honestly think this is one of the best books we’ve produced. Spell-binding narrative, stunning visuals and super accessible.

This is very very exciting!

Had a super day at the @histassoc.bsky.social conference yesterday. Really nice to catch up with @hughrichards.bsky.social Rich Kennet, @counsellc.bsky.social @carmelbones.bsky.social @jenturnerhistory.bsky.social to name a few. Grateful as ever for people who came to hear me speak!

On the way to #HAconf25 at last! Very excited to see everyone from History Twitter in the Olden Days

One of the strangest ironies of the last ten years has been watching Britain immersing itself as deeply as ever in memories of WW2 while proudly turning its back on the project that emerged from it.

Outstanding

White smoke appears over Sistine Chapel as Conclave elects new Pope

Just over a week until this. Only the minor issue of the @histassoc.bsky.social conference to sort in between! Exciting few days...

My favourite conclave story from history is that during the 13th century they had one last more than three years. It took so long three of the cardinals died and magistrates took the roof off the building they were in to try and speed things along a bit. (It took another year).

This one wins Bluesky today

And you may find yourself living in a thatched-roof hut And you may find yourself living in the Holy Roman Empire And you may find yourself negotiating with your lords And you may find yourself in a beautiful hall, with a beautiful wife And you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?"

This is a hilarious thread

In a couple of weeks I'm taking part in a subject panel on subject leadership in History with Gareth Owen & Freya George at the HA Conference in Liverpool. @histassoc.bsky.social Gareth has made this survey to find out more from the history community. #historyteacher forms.office.com/e/txCbcG3BBV

Find your lanyards now people.

I’ll be honest, I could’ve done without this news: I’m going on a stag do to Leeds on Friday, all 10 of us dressed as cardinals.
