I'm always interested in alternative approaches to cataloguing, and the progress made in decolonising post-imperial libraries fascinates me: magazine.1000libraries.com/this-library...

Successfully did my first ever "story time" as a librarian who's only worked in academic libraries. It was just a one-off for an event. Apparently years of explaining databases to sleep-deprived undergrads is excellent training for holding the attention of a group of 7 year olds!

Huh, I'd been looking for a colour palette for the back bedroom ...

"Reading #ethnographies is a very important part of learning about #anthropology ... but there’s very uneven access to those books." Find out why @robotforaday.bsky.social chose to publish his book #OpenAccess and remove barriers to teaching and learning in this new blog post: 👉 bit.ly/3ZlKK52

I have three types of TTRPG character: 1. Geriatric, cantankerous chaotic neutral, sh!t-stirrer 2. Naive, garrulous, good. All cards laid face up on the table, to the despair of the schemers in my party. Origin of the phrase "Don't let the Tremere talk" 3. Chaotic good with impulse control issues.

So I understand that Stuart Semple is going to bring a case to the courts because Anish Kapoor went to see Thunderbolts*

Also, great question to Starmer from a Mirror journalist: Just how much will UK anti-hate legislation be watered down to accommodate the U.S administration?

Did anyone else notice Starmer and Mandelson adopting Agent Orange's syntax? It almost sounded like their 'speeches' had been written by him.

Today I fell off the wagon, and bought a comic* But in doing so, discovered that the second Sandman: Mystery Theatre compendium has a release date at last @alasdairstuart.com forbiddenplanet.com/457888-sandm... * having abandoned single issues when Amazon crippled Comixology.

That's a terrifyingly familiar silhouette.

I'm aware of the theory that the rise of anti-social media on public transport is due to people forgetting how to considerately share space post lockdown, but I wonder if it's more to do with manufacturers removing headphone sockets from phones and buds being easily lost/prohibitively expensive

I shouldn't have to pay for porridge because a single oat isn't really worth anything.

Big news for #OpenScience! openRxiv has launched as an independent nonprofit to oversee bioRxiv and medRxiv, ensuring preprints remain researcher-led, open, rapidly shared, and sustainable. Read more: openrxiv.org/introducing-... #AcademicChatter #AcademicSky #ECRChat #PhDSky #MedSky

So we're not tweeting or tooting... Bleating?

Biorxiv.org is throwing up a 'webserver is down' error when I try to get at it thrown a work PC (even when I hot-spot through my phone's 5G). Using my phone's browser, either DuckDuckGo or Chrome, access is fine *even when connected to the office wi-fi/eduroam. Weird #BioRxiv

Good grief! It's a good thing APCs aren't charged per author. Some of the papers, I'm cataloguing have more 'authors' than paragraphs.

Lovely sky tonight, but all the clouds are in just the wrong places to pick out any of the planets, except Venus. Also, I suddenly have a urge to play #MassEffect fir* the umpteenth time, can't imagine why. Also can't understand why autocorrect has somehow developed an accent. Regional update?
