Day 56. 🇺🇸

“We’re in pretty big trouble,” Hill says, describing the UK’s geopolitical situation as caught between “the rock” of Vladimir Putin’s Russia and “the hard place” of Donald Trump’s increasingly unpredictable United States. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

This is a big and important statement.

Absolutely spot on. 🎯🎯👇👇👇👇

🔵 This week's Tom the Dancing Bug comic! - "A Busy, Busy Day at the Airport" after the late, great Richard Scarry 🛫🐻‍❄️🐻🐷🐱🐶🐭🛬 - Brought to you by the Inner Hive, including new members Jeff Allison and resolvedwaldron. ( join us at bit.ly/theInnerHive !) - READ IT RIGHT HERE👇

Mainstream journalism focusing on the Trump-Musk clash, but little/none of the coverage is about the impact of this theater on the lives of ordinary people. This is how Trump got elected in 2016: Tell us how funny the clowns are...but don't tell us about those forced to clean the elephant shit.

Words to live by.

Rogozin invited Elon Musk to join "Bars-Sarmat," take Russian citizenship, and die by Ukrainian FPV-drone alongside Russian assault troops.

In 2022, HIMARS artillery was a game changer. Now it is much less effective. Piecemeal provision of weapons to Ukraine acted like immunization - it allowed Russians to find counteractions and thus made Russia stronger. This shows one more time: appeasement leads to escalation 1/2

In amongst all the excitement I fear many have missed this outstanding bit of trolling by Friedrich Merz. The Chancellor gifted Trump a gilded framed copy of his grandfather’s German birth certificate... reminding Americans that Trump is both the child and grandchild of migrants.

Richard Neville, dat you?

The most succinct description of US politics today that you will ever read. Put it in the history textbooks; it will never be topped.

A major insight of the work of brilliant scholars as disparate as James Scott, C. Thi Nguyen, & @kjhealy.co is that we live in a society governed by metrics, simple countable vessels for making abstract values concrete. Maximizing metrics is something states can do very well, even unto catastrophe

MY GRANDMOTHER is a Georgian spoof of bureaucratic corruption in which a wasteful official is skewered in an op-ed and must try to get his position back by finding a sponsor (a "grandmother" in Georgian slang). The film makes heavy use of playful symbolism, including oversize props and animation.

Musk hasn't (re)tweeted anything in over an hour. Concerning.

While two children are quarreling on their social media plattforms a genocidal murderer is bombing civilians

Things which can be true at once: A) It's entertaining B) It's deeply dysfunctional which the Trump court always was/was always going to be C) This happens when a political project is about vibes/personality cults rather than actual convergent beliefs D) It's pathetic E) They could make up

I say this a lot but we are all so lucky this generation of fascists came of age on message boards and not stabbing people to death at close range in a trench while the world detonates endlessly around them

At this point the Epstein files have probably been passed around to so many unsecured devices in the Trump administration that every major European, Russian and Chinese intelligence service has them all too

Bravo👏

The Polish foreign minister, a writer and journalist who covered the Soviet war in Afghanistan in the 1980s, clearly knows a thing or two about a patiently-timed response.

Apropos of nothing in particular: When narcissists reach the Discard Phase in a relationship, they seek to annihilate their previous source of narcissistic supply.

The clash of two massive egos was inevitable. It's troubling that the well-being of society rests more on the instability of narcissistic leadership than on functional checks and balances.

Here's a tricky one. The online far-right absolutely can't remain silent at this moment. Like a shark, they have to keep posting or they'll die. And since they're getting paid to post, all the more so. But they can't risk really offending either party. So how to square the circle... I got it!

The consequences that befall Musk now that he's attacked Trump publicly will be a measure of how well the US fits the competitive authoritarian model. The more severe, the better the fit. I despise Musk, but for the sake of US democracy, I hope his punishment doesn't violate the rule of law.

Musk turning on Trump is not a reason to A) Get an account on X. B) Forgive him for all the disgusting things things he’s done. Your enemy’s enemy is not always your friend. Definitely not in this case.

One issue that the techbros haven't thought through in their attempt to dismantle rule of law is that it also protects them. All your money only buys political power when you have rule of law. Without rule of law then the people with guns have the real power. And your money just makes you a target.

How many innocent people all around the world have had to suffer just so these two sociopaths could burn each other and our country to the ground.

Musk is likely to learn very quickly that state's have capacities that dwarf even those of the richest man on earth. And may end up waxing nostalgic for good ol' rule of law before this is over

Oh, I’m sorry. Did your rational and logical economic system not account for what if two terminally online men had a falling out?

trump's real secret power is the contempt everyone around him has for him

Yes… Hahaha… Yes!
