New collaborative blog post (led by @ijzerman.bsky.social and others) in which we examine the evidence for an "Epidemic of Loneliness" in the United States, and find it wanting. www.linkedin.com/pulse/from-t...

I’m sure those heterodox people will take big offense to this.

I’ll never forgot a careers workshop I randomly attended at my first conference during my PhD. It the first time (pre-twitter!) I’d heard an honest conversation about career prospects in academia

Do you know any early career researchers in the UK who have contributed something special to improve research practices? The call for the 2025 Dorothy Bishop award is open now! Nominations close on 26 January 2025. www.ukrn.org/2024/12/12/t...

Want to get editing experience? If you have a PhD & are a member of a group that’s historically underrepresented in editorial roles, apply for a 1 yr editorial fellowship at one of APS’s journals (including Psych Science)! Deadline 7 Feb. Please share! www.psychologicalscience.org/publications...

Reliability cannot be “good” either, unless the items show adequate properties regarding dimensionality, invariance and monotonicity of response categories. Just running alpha does not prove reliability. And yes, most measures have not been properly analyzed/tested. #psychometrics

Homeboy stopped the wrong lady (H/T @agirlhasnopres.bsky.social )

Today, the government of Northrhine-Westphalia (Germany) announced its #Loneliness Action Plan. I was invited to join Minister President Hendrik Wüst at the press conference and provide my perspectives as a loneliness researcher. Foto: Land NRW / Josua Dunst

By using accurate, thoughtful terminology and focusing on comprehensive, multifaceted solutions, we can move beyond the oversimplified “epidemic” narrative and address the real drivers of #loneliness. www.linkedin.com/pulse/misnom... By @ijzerman.bsky.social & Marlies Maes.

Bravo for @fabricefrank.bsky.social In-depth interview. Former biologist turned computer scientist, Fabrice Frank, passionate about science, has since Covid launched into the hunt for scientific fraud. He has revealed several scandals of national magnitude.

Diamond open access (free to read AND to publish in) experimental psychology-adjacent journals we have accredited at freejournals.org. Do you know of others? Lemme know; could suggest they check they meet our standards at freejournals.org, and join our community. #openaccess #scientificPublishing

A largely non exhaustive pack for meta research and open science. Please circulate it ;) go.bsky.app/R8RNJgc

Maybe, and just hear me out for a moment... National health / human rights / technology legislation shouldn't be based on a poorly researched pop psych book?

Here is a starter pack for Forensic Meta-science, data sleuthing, and scientific error detection. This might already exist, but I couldn’t find a starter pack anywhere else. Let me know who else I should add that are on bluesky. go.bsky.app/JJqx4fv
