CLARIFICATION : The Trevor Project's hotline will still be live. But basically this means LGBTQ people can no longer be connected to it through the US national 988 suicide prevention hotline. They will need to be contacted DIRECTLY So spread this around They can be texted. They can be called.

One cool person interviews another cool person about her new book about film, and us, and truth, and fiction, and...everything. Check it out!

For @lareviewofbooks.bsky.social, I interviewed the brilliant @ferrifrigida.bsky.social about her new book, Out There in the Dark, about film and perspective and truth and fiction: lareviewofbooks.org/article/if-t...

well fucking fuck everything this is infuriating

We could be driving cute Jetsons cars this whole time?!?

Kat's incredible book, OUT THERE IN THE DARK, is ~officially out today~ and I adore it and think you should all read it. I'll be sharing an interview with her tomorrow but for now, go buy it! And come tonight to her virtual launch!!! autofocusbooks.com/store/p/out-...

ICE just arrested Brad Lander, the NYC Comptroller and one of the leading candidates for Mayor, without grounds. He was conducting routine immigration court work, escorting individuals from hearings. He asked ICE for their warrant - well within his legal rights. This is political intimidation.

The vast, vast, vast majority of authors have second (and maybe third and fourth) jobs and/or family money and/or partners with a better income. Being a writer doesn't pay well.

One of our leading citywide elected leaders and candidates for mayor peacefully asks masked ICE agents to see a warrant and is violently arrested. Horrifying and disturbing for what it is and what it represents. Fascism. www.amny.com/news/brad-la...

I was soooo honored to be asked to write the introduction to this beautiful book (lowkey one of my biggest nerdy critic dreams is being asked to rite introductions lol) and it's out today!

HAPPY PUB DAY TO DAWN POWELL and @ilanaslightly.bsky.social!

Publishers don’t pay for nonfiction books to be fact-checked, the author does out of their advance.

For @essaydaily.bsky.social I wrote about the power of flash as feminist reclamation, Jamaica Kincaid’s genre-blurring “Girl,” and writing my flash collection ABBREVIATE. www.essaydaily.org/2025/06/sara...

💫 Oooooooh! Look at this incredible news! Contributor ‪Ilana Masad‬’s book BEINGS received a starred review in Kirkus Reviews! Congratulations @ilanaslightly.bsky.social‬ 🎉 buff.ly/iqsCnwo

Do any freelance editors I know here work for Reedsy and if so is it a good gig?

Okay you guys, what’s the best book, movie, or TV show your dad introduced you to

Man, remember when the Brits came out in droves to celebrate when Margaret Thatcher died? Just thinking for no particular reason about what a great time we're all gonna have one day

I'm sorry but the largest protest of my lifetime is not the 7th or 8th biggest news story in the country behind "what does Gen Z want from Instagram?" This shit is humiliating. Rearrange your layout to meet this moment. Omitting the thing happening in every American city is malpractice.

The rally I tried to go to today (tried because baby fell asleep in his sling and then got VERY mad about it and had to turn around and go back home) was so packed the organizers were telling people to spread out on the sidewalk up to the next big streets and that pleases me

The Minnesota assassinations, the attempted arson at Governor Shapiro's home, and the violent arrest of Senator Padilla are all straight out of the Jim Crow terrorism playbook. Same goes with cops aiming for journalists covering the ICE protests. None of these are new tactics, just a new iteration.

Lesson 13 of "On Tyranny": Practice corporeal politics. Find your No Kings protest, June 14th.

I’ve seen a lot of hand wringing about the dangers of going to No Kings protests and gently, I want to tell people to chill a little. These are permitted marches and the point is to be out there and seen en masse. Please don’t scare off people who are maybe going to their very first protest

Please enjoy my close reading of Little Blue Truck Leads the Way by Alice Schertle and Jill McElmurry (Little Blue doesn't say ACAB but also doesn't NOT say ACAB which is better than some kids' books tbh) buttondown.com/imasadcritic...

No notes.

I did my best to compile as many protest safety notes as possible into a one page foldout zine! Coincidentally…it seems the file has breached containment…like it’s available for anyone to print or hand out 👀⚖️ toonyart.com/s/PSZine.pdf

jesus fucking christ

I really hope people want to read about subtle anti-cop sentiment in a children's book because that's what my newsletter this week is gonna be about lol
