The President does not have the authority to make this decision. There is no imminent threat to America from Iran. He cannot take this action without congressional authorization. I will not vote to give him that authority, and I likely represent the majority of Congress.

Hi, this is Meg Barnette, Brad's wife. While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE. This is still developing, and our team is monitoring the situation closely.

A roadmap to electrifying heavy industry:

A reporter from The City had overheard one agent say to another minutes before Lander’s arrest, “Do you want to arrest the Comptroller?” www.thecity.nyc/2025/06/17/b...

seen some people complaining that this is a political stunt and lemme say if this was the kind of political stunt more politicians were doing on a regular basis we wouldn't be where we are today dude is actually putting himself on the line here, fuck off with that shit

Here in Washington state, 3,866,398 acres are on the line. This includes some of the most carbon-dense forest in the world, with immeasurable value for climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and human health and well-being.

The Senate Finance committee just dropped their draft text for the Republican budget bill. www.finance.senate.gov/chairmans-ne... Like the House, it is hot trash and terrible for America. But it is marginally better for clean energy credits. Some key details... 🔌💡 🔌🚗

Finance Committee text is out - this has the Medicaid cuts and the tax cuts. Will go through it in this thread. But what we can say for certain is that, like the House version, this would be BY FAR the largest Medicaid cuts in history, kicking many millions of people off their health insurance.

Not an exaggeration. I just went through the NYTimes homepage twice: once quickly and once in exacting detail. Steel, G7, Labubu, birth rates, Leonard Lauder, the Red Sox, golf, Mennonites, Javier Bardem, chicken vesuvio, bad sex, Arnold Schwarzenegger? Sure. Biggest protests in US history? No.

I just went there to try and find the NYT coverage of the largest protests in modern American history and just kept on scrolling and scrolling and scrolling …

Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop! Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels

Some folks are born silver spoon in hand Don't they help themselves, Lord? But when the taxman come to the door The house lookin' like a rummage sale Some folks inherit star-spangled eyes They send you down to war And when you ask 'em, "How much should we give?" They only answer, "More, more, more"

the story today is of a profoundly low energy military parade being met with millions of americans in nationwide protests denouncing the dictatorial pretensions of the president

Checking in on “Yes Kings”

I did not edit this, this is the actual parade with the actual music being played. CINEMATIC

The crowds were anemic, the weather glum, and the tanks tore up DC's streets as the tubas and tin whistles aired a desultory tune at the damp squib that was the president's tawdry birthday extravagance. There, fixed it for you.

They are smart enough not to be in lock step.

“No Kings” demonstration, Ocean Beach, San Francisco

At the SF protests there's been plenty of shade.

Liberté, Égalité, Gritté

I see no reason a rewards system to finger your neighbor to the gestapo will be abused.

I encourage everyone to consider attending one of the many demonstrations planned for tomorrow across the country. Show up. Demand accountability. Peacefully protest. Find the rally closest to you: NoKings.org

Every elected Republican should be asked if they think the president has the power to send in military in to “liberate” a state or city from its elected government.

Such dishonorable cowardice. An interpreter for the US military in Afghanistan shows up to his asylum hearing and these cowards in masks arrest him without warrant and plan to deport him. The immigration judge granted him a merit hearing to decide his asylum claim, but he'll likely never see it.

As I just flagged, this has been replaced with something which is arguably worse; requiring that basically every plaintiff seeking a preliminary injunction against the federal government pay millions or billions of dollars in "security" to pay for "costs" to the federal government if they later win.

Well, yes, I could have foreseen this disappointingly garbage tweet, if that's what you mean.

This is a total disaster for US nonproliferation policy that, by withdrawing from the JCPOA in 2018, Trump owns completely.

The geometry of car accommodation.

Also cannot be emphasized enough: Barack Obama successfully negotiated the shutdown of Iran's nuclear program. It exists today because Trump deliberately tore up that agreement. The deaths happening right now can be laid at his door.

The treatment of Senator Alex Padilla is disgraceful — no matter how you look at it. If this is how the Trump Administration treats a sitting U.S. Senator, we should all be alarmed.

Marching with Congressional Hispanic Caucus to the senate to demand GOP Leader Thune take immediate action to investigate and hold DHS accountable for the assault and detainment of Senator Alex Padilla. This is America. This is our democracy. We will not stand for it.

Kristi Noem must resign. She has deported a four year old with cancer, detained a U.S. marshal, and arrested two members of Congress. She’s lost the confidence of the American people. ICE must stop terrorizing our communities.

This thread is on point. We're not inherently special, but we can be exceptional: Americans are just as responsible for fighting for our democracy as anyone else.

Do NOT underestimate how many people Bibi will kill to save his own hide.

What distinguishes Trump at the moment is his impotence. He is the most impotent US president of our lifetime. Impotent with Israel. Impotent with Putin. Impotent with Ukraine. Impotent with alienated allies. Impotent in trade wars he started. Impotent in the face of PRC economic power. Impotent.

BREAKING: Judge Breyer orders Trump to return control of the National Guard back to California, saying the call-up was illegal. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Donald Trump is using brave American soldiers as props in his political performance. It's unconstitutional, it's immoral, and it's putting innocent lives at risk. This isn’t leadership. It’s a dangerous abuse of power.

The JCPOA was very good, actually.

Remember, we *had* a diplomatic resolution to the Iran nuclear issue, thanks to the JCPOA that Obama put in place after years of hard work, but then President Spiteful Shithead withdrew the U.S. from the pact in 2018 and everything fell apart. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

If Trump asserts the right to forcibly depose democratically elected officeholders, I’m not sure why any Republican would assume they’re safe just because they’re currently in his good graces.

Just catching up. 1. Secretary Noem said the armed forces are in California to "liberate" it from the Governor and LA mayor 2. Senate Immigration Subcommittee ranking member Padilla tried to ask a question 3. Noem's security detail tackled and cuffed him. 3. Noem didn't intervene. That right?

Padilla: If this is how DHS responds to a senator with a question you can only imagine what they're doing to farm workers, to cooks, to day laborers out in the Los Angeles community and throughout California.
