It's finally time to announce my game: Island Architect! Sculpt seaside towns in Island Architect, a relaxing builder inspired by coastal Europe. Build winding streets, whimsical towers, or calm fishing villages in this cozy experience. Wishlist now on steam: store.steampowered.com/app/3079100/...

Every year I play in intricately crafted ORGs, run entirely by volunteers, that provide dozens hours of memorable "gameplay". For me this was yet one more step in internalizing how rigged economic "valuation" is for games. Which forces dictate what games should be "worth" and who benefits?

If you're a small indie team without much money on Unreal, you really have to look out for guys who want to call themselves Technical Director and "trust me bro" their way through it. Consistently and by far the most destructive force in the non-business side of game dev. You don't need these guys

It is time! Cattle Crisis has been just released on Itch. Thank you for sticking with me for such a long time. Enjoy! 🕹️ https://krystman.itch.io/cattle-crisis #pico8 #shmup #stg #arcade #indiedev

Uhhhh in NOT THE ONION news, this is actually brilliant lol "In the name of the gravy, the bun, and hot giard, we introduce The Leo: a divinely seasoned Italian beef, baptized in gravy and finished with the holy trinity of peppers — sweet, hot, or a combo." people.com/portillos-la...

My loves, can you help recommend me TTRPGs, particularly world-building and/or fantasy-genre, made by SWANA designers?? Self-promotion is HEAVILY encouraged!!

I've said in multiple places that LLMs are "just" Markov Chains. but what do I mean by this? first lets talk about what Markov Chains are, or more precisely, what Discrete Time Markov Chains are

I've learned (and I am still learning) how to run a game studio for the last seven years doing both creative and biz. Here's a list of guidelines that work for us and might be useful for others that were lessons I've incorporated with our experience and guidance from others. 🧵

Back to classic proc gen today. What ways are there of subdividing a rectangle? I enumerate the *irreducible* subdivisions, which imho are the most visually interesting. www.boristhebrave.com/2025/05/03/e...

Can software express critical reflections on its own nature in the same way post-modern architecture does? I don't have the answers, but I wrote a long text with some early thoughts: tomasp.net/architecture/

I'm getting married this week, to my darling of ten years! Let's celebrate with a wedding week sale! ✨🎉 Use code "congrats" to save 25% on everything in the Buried Without Ceremony store, from now until end of week. store.buriedwithoutceremony.com/discount/con...

Added support for Cosserat rods to Jolt Physics. This is a stick constraint with an orientation that can be used to attach geometry. Can be used e.g. to simulate vegetation in a cheap way.

folks if your publisher isn't giving your game a limited edition barf bag double check that contract because they probably owe you this but most skip it

Citizen Sleeper is also a solo board game now — and it’s free

Show off your indie dev skills at BULLET HELL JAM 6! About a week left to cram as many projectiles into a small game as you can. The theme this year is "UNSTABLE". Dangerous glitches and random elements! 😱😵‍💫 Entry form and Discord link itch.io/jam/bullet-j...

Happy CITIZEN SLEEPER DAY! 🥳 The series is 3 years old today! To celebrate I just released SPINDLEJACK a free, print and play solo TTRPG about zero-g bike couriers! 🚴‍♀️Grab it here: jump-over-the-age.itch.io/citizen-slee... We also have new series art, and some fun stats below too 👇

the thing about VCs is that they don't want the companies they invest in to succeed, necessarily. They want them to either grow rapidly and massively or fail quickly. Slowly building a market? Growing stably and sustainably? These things fuck up the VC business model and are anathema.

ok IM SUCH A BROKEN RECORD ABOUT THIS but i have to talk about the relationship of kill gameplay to game dev. "let ppl do the important work instead of busy work" === kill gameplay literally foundational. before i considered killing gameplay i was thinking: how do i apply game design to making?

the broader question of "are video games art" is actually answered by polygon and giant bomb dying. they're trying to be but their wholesale recuperation into the media and entertainment industies of tech and capital and this being cheerled by reactionary "anti-woke" crowds prevents this potential

In today's new blog post, I try to provide some intuition and clear up some misconceptions about early Z cull behavior on desktop GPUs. Have a read if that interests you! therealmjp.github.io/posts/to-ear...

Implemented two-pass GPU occlusion culling (using a hierarchical depth buffer - "HiZ") in my SDF engine! The video shows disocclusions (bricks that need to be rendered in the 2nd pass) in pink. This technique reduces the number of bricks rendered by 50-90+%. More details below.

I built a Playstacean!

I appreciate how almost every time I reshare this it ends up getting a couple more sales I hope people find it useful and am grateful people are willingly paying for something that's pay-what-you-want

Last day to apply!

great overview of the investor situation. it's so sad to think about how badly funding has catered. it's so bad for most developers right now, but even worse for marginalized developers: www.polygon.com/24058266/vid...
