It's a chilly winter's afternoon where I am, but I have a nice pot of tea here, and a pot roast in the oven to look forward to. Time to turn on the rock'n'roll and crank out some more posts for the queue!

June is widely celebrated as Pride Month, so if you want to boost your queer reading this month, perhaps you could start with this sweet, witchy sapphic meet-cute: https://red-pens-and-playwriting.ghost.io/toil-and-trouble-part-1/

One nice thing about long weekends is having extra time to write today AND time to read yesterday AND time to visit my parents the day before... Today's goal: finish my post about Stan the man! (Bonus points for you if you know who I mean by that)

I've finished up my workday and am about to embark on a lovely 5-day weekend! I'm hoping to get caught up on finishing off all my posts for next month before I head back into the office, but I've got a surprising number of social events planned as well, so we shall have to see how I get on...

May 25th is Towel Day for those of us who are fans of Douglas Adams. Here's a piece I wrote based on one of my favourite scenes from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: https://red-pens-and-playwriting.ghost.io/monologue-of-a-whale/

I was planning to write a post for next month about Eugene O'Neill, but, uh... his life is very, very depressing (as is his work, unsurprisingly). Maybe I'll pick someone else for this one.

Now, more than ever, writing clearly with a distinct voice is going to be such a skill. One of the most important things you can learn to do.

One day I'll stop forgetting to mark my paid posts as paid subscribers only, but clearly it was not the day I scheduled today's post. I've corrected that now, but to those who have read it already I hope you enjoyed it!

You've seen me post about some awesome etymologies, but here are some fascinating fake ones! https://www.merriam-webster.com/wordplay/7-false-etymologies

I've just added a preview of the intro to Dissecting the Frog to the Ko-fi listing! If you can read this and find it intriguing, head over to https://ko-fi.com/s/d10d69efd0 to purchase the whole thing. [Apologies for lack of ALT; current tech setup won't allow it for this image]

It's almost Mother's Day! Who are your favourite mothers in literature? Here are a couple of mine: https://red-pens-and-playwriting.ghost.io/mothers-dearest/

Okay, it's really time I knuckled down and finally finished this post that's been haunting me all week. Then I can start on a new one about The Scarlet Pimpernel!

I was planning to finish off an upcoming #GrammarTalk post today, but instead I spent the afternoon reading an entire Thursday Murder Club book, and honestly I'm not sorry. Let's see how tomorrow goes...

This calls for tea and biscuits.

I have the evening to myself and a little bit of brain left from the workday, so I'm trying to make the most of it to finish up my posting to-dos for the month... Trying.

Original full title of Daniel Defoe's 1719 novel: "The Life and Strange Surprizing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, of York, Mariner: Who Lived Eight and Twenty Years, All Alone in an Un-Inhabited Island on the Coast of America, near the Mouth of the Great River of Oroonoque; Having Been Cast on […]

Update: swapping back to "index" did indeed fix it! Note to self: will need to wait until I'm able to block Bridgy on here and thereby reset the bridge to a new handle before I try changing it again.

Anyone else having problems with bridging to BlueSky after changing their handle? (I've swapped it back to see if that fixes things)

As of this evening I am officially on holiday for the next week and a half! I have plans to spend plenty of time relaxing, reading, socialising, and of course getting a good chunk of writing done. Believe me, I am very much looking forward to it!

Red Pens and Playwriting is on Kofi! I've also migrated my purchasable PDF of Dissecting the Frog there from Gumroad; if you're interested in comedic writing, check it out! https://ko-fi.com/s/d10d69efd0

It's my birthday weekend, and, while today's post is accessible paid subscribers only, I have a lot of cool writing- and literature-related posts that you CAN read. Want to read a short story about a meet-cute in a magical speakeasy? Here you go […]

Put on my "Dancing and Headbanging" playlist to keep working on my upcoming etymology post. Starting with Benny Goodman's "Sing Sing Sing (With a Swing)" certainly boosted my energy, but isn't the most condusive to sitting and writing because I keep dancing to it in my chair. (I have zero regrets.)

The post I'm currently avoiding working on this week is the next in the series of sporadic fun etymology posts. I enjoy them, but they take so long to write! For an example of what I mean, have a read of the last one: https://red-pens-and-playwriting.ghost.io/whats-in-a-word-part-3/
