The great @suzannevega.bsky.social releases “Luka” as a single this weekend in 1987. Upon hearing it, Prince (whom she never met) sent a letter. “‘Luka’ is the most compelling piece of music I’ve heard in a long time,” he wrote. “There are no words 2 tell you all the things I feel when I hear it.”

This is Army PFC Adriana Alvarez from San Benito, Texas, who was killed in Baghdad in 2010. She died in support of combat operations. Adriana was only 20 years old. Per her obituary, "Adriana loved photography, classic rock music and proudly served her country."

My father was able to hand this to me, while some of his friends never got that chance. He feels very guilty about that, but I feel grateful. I'm thinking about that, and those friends of his, on this Memorial Day.
