Contrails are water vapor from aircraft exhaust that freezes into ice crystals in the cold upper atmosphere, forming visible trails. Their persistence depends on atmospheric conditions like humidity & temperature. This isn't new info. US Army AF B-24s & B-17s left contrails way back in 1944.
