Violence is one thing, it motivates storylines. But if a predominant feature of a book is torture, gratuitous helplessness, that is sadist service. There was a bubblegum pop series I enjoyed with magic and were-animals, but a torture porn chapter put me off the author, and her books, altogether.

I'm thinking about premium subscription services. New US law is ripping the seams of society, raising the cost of living. Good art is loudly subversive, artists need patrons. Middle class patrons support artists, but pay providers first. I also support small news orgs, but with COL rising?

I'm getting distressed re the relentless severe weather in the midwest. It ought to be a huge story. Just the hail alone will destoy crops that feed people and livestock, let alone tornadoes destroying buildings and storage facilities. We don't need to hear Biden was old for the zillionth time.

This #lichen Pseudocyphellaria crocata. I found this one in a very wet climate and it looked super happy there but only one example not loads all about. Yellow soralia makes this quite special contrasted against leathery brown ear like lobes #FungiFriends
