The line I’m seeing UFC shills using to defend Volk vs Yair 2 is “A Mexican needs to fight for the belt in Mexico”. By their logic then Shev vs Jasmine should’ve headlined 315. I suspect they wouldn’t have been as supportive.

Kind of a hot take, but HW is the worst weight class in the UFC above even W135. Even though W135 is less talented the fans know its flaws and the UFC treat it largely as card filler, whereas HW still gets the bells and whistles of a marquee division when it doesn't warrant it.

I genuinely believe no man has done more to hurt the legitimacy of Heavyweight MMA then Jailton Almeida. Undersized, no striking and the most predictable gameplan in the sport, but because the division is that unathletic he's probably fighting for the belt soon.

Colby is the perfect case study of the pros and cons of playing a character in MMA. It helps you jump the queue and give you way more coverage then otherwise, but it relies on the fighter backing it up in-cage. When you don’t, the bottom drops out QUICKLY.
